Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Event$ cf May 23, 1905 Racing at Gravesend, Churchill Downs, Toronto, Kansas City, Union Park and Fair Grounds at St. Louis. A rumor is current in Louisville to the effect that the Western Jockey Club is planning to open a track in this city and it is claimed that it has had here for several days representatives who have been investigating eligible locations. Douglas Park and the old Thompson track are spoken of as possibilities. The se.Iing race war was renewed at St. Louis today at the Fair Grounds when T. F. Buckeley bcosted Alencon. winner of the first race, from 00 to ,000. T. H. Stevens retained Alencon. J. C. Ghios Condc, winner of the second race, was run up to 00 by J. F. Dockery and retained by his owner. Conde was entered for 00. E. E. Smathers Charleys Aunt, winner of the third race, was run up to ,000 and retained.
