REFURBISHING HAWTHORNE Beautifying Plant for Approaching Meeting — Nominations for Two Big Handicaps. All of tho officials of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association spent Sunday at the track inspecting the improvements which have been made there and going over details for the coming meeting. The spraying of the barns inside and out will be completed by the end of the week and the spraying of the paddock and grandstand roof will be started today. The clubhouse has ben repainted and the work of repainting the stewards and timers stands and parts of the grandstand and paddock will be completed within the next ten days. The new boxes In the paddock are all ready under roof and will be finished by the middle of the week. A big force of gardeners is at work beautifying the plant and everything will be in shape long before the opening day. Work on the roads leading to the plant has been started by the Cicero and Stickney authorities and this will be pushed to completion. The checking up of the Independence and Labor Day Handicaps which closed on June 6, has been completed and the entries will be published in full in the first weeks book which is now in the hands of the printer and will b* ready for distribution by Thursday. In addition to the conditions of the races, the book will include a number of photographs of the leading horses of the year and also some of the scenes at Hawthorne and will be in the shape of an attractive souvenir. Tho Independence Handicap attracted seventy-nine entries, among which are Princess Doreen, Senator Norris, Spot Cash, Beau Butler, Honor, Flying Fur, Tilka, Jraeme, Little Smoke, Lee O. Cotney, CJlenister If., Gibbons. Miss Meise, Nassau, Son of John, Starbeok, Phusla, General Thatcher, Price-maker and others. The Labor Day Handicap attracted ninety-six entries including the cream of the handicap division both Fast and West. In addition to those named in the Independence, are Billy Warren, Shuffle Along. Broadway Jones, Buck, Kitty Pat, Ro therm el, Chil-howie, Stanwix. Brave Bob, Cherry Pie, Little Celt, Captain Hal, Osprey. Spic and Span. I*aveen. Mad Play, Silver Fox, Frederick-town, King Nadi and others.
