I DISPLAYS OLD FORM * L Little Celt Triumphs Over Glenis- ter II. and Step Along. ■ I Buckwheat Cake Joins Ranks of Latonia Track Record Holders of Mile and Seventy Yards. L.ATOXIA, Ky., June 15.-The International £ Stables one time star, Little Celt, scored his f first victory of the Kentucky season when he j triumphed in the mile and a sixteenth purse j from Glenister II., with Step Along in third I place. The raco .also brought a ten Says suspension for jockey O. Fields, whose action i j of cutting across in front of the field at the club house turn and impeding" Little Celt I was promptly noted by the stewards. Fields | action enabled ilenister II. to move into a] f good lead and under vigorous riding, in con- trast to what Fields displayed on the horse . in his preceding start, he showed the way until well alon;v in the stretch where Little . Celt again moved forward and in a nharp c drive that followed, the International ■ Stables representative managed to win. J Considerable distance in back of the pair came the tiring Step Along, which j just managed to beat Ruttin In. The showing; of Old Slip was a dull one. He was over a s sixteenth of a mile away from the leaders in the first half mile and was not persevered , with, though he closed a good gap in the last , quarter. K. TL IIradley*s Buckwheat Cake, joined , the ranks of track record holders of the mile and seventy yards. They now number six. She scored a lucky victory over Rothermel : and Little Visitor. Ttothermel was best here. ] | I Her defeat was due to the blunders of D. Mrrgler. He took the filly back sharply 1 from a contending position after going half a mile and the loss of ground entailed by i this action for the Camden filly would have ; | i given her an easy success. She was going : steadily in the stretch and in a fair way to 1 head Little Visitor when Mergler again cased I to go around Little Visitor and the finish i was then too close for her to head Buckwheat Cake, which continued on in steady style. HKAT REDUCES ATTENDANCE The intense heat, which prevailed this aft- ; j , ernoon, caused a considerable falling off in j attendance. . l ark_clouds began hovering over! i the track late in the afternoon but the rain held off until the running of the sixth race. I when a smart shower came but it was only. of short duration and had the effect of set- tling the dust only. The opening race found the public away . well when Fair Vision was victress. It was I the first sun-ess that the E. C. Brien colors has scored this spring. Surprise made Fair ■ ■ Vision extend herself to her utmost to head I] her. She did so in the last sixteenth. Court j Lady eoming steadily during the stretch, ■ i got up for third place. -| George af. Hcndries Poinsettia earned a 1 , purse for that owner when she won out ■ the sixth race, that brought a dozen maiden three-year-olds and over to the post. She just managed to outstay Muldoon which had been the leader from the start. Urine y ; Breezes finished in third place. Friend i which was regarded highly showed a dull j performance, mostly because she was ridden I wide. j BEST FINISH OF DAY T The best finish in the afternoon came in .the closing race when High lrince. Mid-, t western. Bona Vera and Blue Stone fin-j a i i.-hed noses apart after a fierce duel that - lasted all during the final eighth. The vet- ft eran Minto II. was made an overwhelming 1 favorite, but after going half a mile he -tired badly. High lriiuvs showing today was markedly improved over his last two v races. 1 ombardos handling of him was su-j j perior to that whieh Hurn gave him. After -the finish High Friuce went to the stable s of a new owner. W. H. Hall having claimed r him at a rust of $: ,500. r] The second race in which two-year-olds f I contested, produced a BSfflss of mishaps in e which the principal contenders figured and a suffered. It Ix-Lan when Kstin. an over-;. whelming Cavotite, was away slowly and h almost fell when he stumbled badly. He il was seemingly hopelessly out of it as B i result of his mishap. Accumulator, which e was away Cast accompanied bjr Selective. .: was clear of the others and apparently des- n fOSStlBSSi ou sixteenth page. i t i ■ . ] j | ! i ; : j ! j : , ; i I i ■ 1 j j I i I I i ! i ; j I I | i 1 " " I " , • i " I r : 1 i I ■ i 1 . At the stretch turn, their going wide enabled Margate, 1 awn of Tomorrow and Gentry to save much ground and race by the wide racing pair. Margate shook off the others and went into the lead to win well in hand. Fstin began moving forward just before reaching the stretch and Meyer taking a big chanoe of getting through next the inner rail, succeeded in getting up for second place to beat out Gentry. Jockey Heupel incensed by Accumulators action struck the horse several times across the head aftor the finish for which the stewards imposed a fine of 00 on him. A spectauclar finish came in the third when San-Silk got up in the last stride to win over Foreign Relations, with Lawless In third place. Foreign Relations and Louis Rubinstein forced an extremely fast pace for the first half mile, but Louis Rubenstoin retired and gave Foreign Relations a good lead. He was winning easily when he suddenly began swerving out and it brought about his defeat. San-Silk showed a finand performance to race wide the entire three-quarters and win. I-awless was favored and was lucky to land in third place. Water-flag would have been a stronger factor with better riding. The diminutive Johnson rode her wide and allowed her to drop out of it in the first part
