KNOBBIE TAKES ROCKAWAY Former Rancocas Star Easily Wins Stake at Aqueduct. i Feysun Beats Vigil In OInmbala Handicap — Sarmatltus Continues on His Winning Way. t NEW YORK, N. T., June 16— Jefferson Livingstons Knobbie was an easy winner of the stake offering of the Queens County Jockey Club at Aqueduct today when he accounted for the three-quarters of the Rock-away Claiming Stakes., The race was worth ,775 to the winner and at the end he was ! showing the way to Panic from the Mirasol | Stable with G. C. Winfreys Tester up in time j to take third from Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Golden Spire. Back of this one came Brown j Betty and Night March and Hullabaloo was I eased up a distant last. The weather was uncomfortably warm, but ■ big crowd was out and there was no lack ! of enthusiasm, though what was meant for , one of the best offerings of the day was well nigh ruined when Cartoonist, Flagstaff and Sunsini were withdrawn leaving only Fey-Sun and Vigil to perform in the Olambala Handicap. Mongo and Hidalgo were the withdrawals from the Rockaway but there were seven left to start. There was some little delay at the post but the start was a good one though Hullabaloo was in rather close quarters, and he did not leave with the rush that marks ! many of his races. Golden Spire was alert and he showed th:* way but Tester was right with him, and | Brown Betty and Knobbie were also lapped j on the Winfrey hope. That order did not last long when Barnes rushed Knobbie to ! such good advantage that he was soon two j lengths clear of his opponents. The old son I of Wrack was showing a semblance of tho form that was his when he performed under the silks of the Rancocas Stable and once clear of his company he settled down steadily and the result was never afterwards in doubt. Golden Spire soon tired of chasing j the Livingston horse and as he faltered it I was Panic that moved into second place and for an instant Night March showed a disposition to come on, but all the time Knobbie was master of the situation. W. J. Salmons Vigil was the only horse to oppose K. M. Kellys Fey sun in the mile and a sixteenth Olambala Handicap. Thanks i to a well-timed ride by Johnny Maiben, Vigil gave the Kelly colt something of a battle. though Feysun was best. The horses were not permitted to come to a stand as they approached the barrier and, though Vigil ! had his nose in front at the start. Feysun quickly took the lead and the race was as good as over. Maiben had saved something for a last dash ■ with Vigil and in the final eighth he stole up I on tho outside with a rush and was lapped on I Feysun at the end. The one mile fifth race called for jockeys I that had not won two races on the flat and it fell to W. J. Boths Skirmish, ridden by J. Tamaro, a rider who has ridden winners through the steeplechase field. He handled his mount well and the rid1 had much to do with the result. M. Colfords Osage raced In- tontinued on fcairteeuth page. KNOBBIE TAKES ROCKAWAY Continued from first page. to second place and J. A. Cuburns Yoshimi saved third from Monarchist. It. L. Gerrys Saxmatious, ridden by jockey F. Coltiletti, continued his winning nays and was an easy winner of the final race of the afternoon, which was at five-eighths. J. E. Maddens Little Asbestos raced to second place, while Ursa Major was third. The winner dominated the running from the start and at no stage left the result in doubt. In the run through the stretch Panic held to second place resolutely while Tester, saving ground on the inside closed with excellent courage to readily take third from the tired Golden Spire. The race was hardly up to the best performance of Tester, but he had some small excuse when he was slightly shuffled back in the early racing and he did not have the best of luck until he was able to stride freely next to the rail through the last eighth. Hullabaloo dropped out of the running, so badly that when he was hopelessly beaten in the stretch that he was eased up by Albert Johnson and he finished lengths I. ark of the others. Fifteen two-year-old maidens; made up the field for the opening race and it was u dash of five-eighths. G. C Winfreys Tops Bres-1 ii.. r proved best and after racing forwardly throughout he had plenty left to be home the winner. ! narita, from the Everglades Stable, finished second and Jefferson Livingstons Anchester wi.s third over Samuel Louis Little Blaze. Mir.o. from the Oak Ridge Stable, was best of the sprinters that met in the six and a half furlongs condition race that was the second offering and, though he was giving away considerable weight, he led from end to end Walter J. Salmons Contract home by three lengths. The Log Cabin Stud Stable s Resolution was just a nose farther back. There was a considerable delay at the post, but the start was a good one and Sande at once rushed Mino into a lead and Contract was showing the way to the others. Maiben had the Salmon sprinter under a slight restraint In the early racing, but he was able to hold that position.
