NO PRESS RESTRICTIONS Proposed Ban Against Publication Publicationof of Bacing News in Canada Meets MeetsDefeat Defeat at Ottawa OTTAWA Canada June 23 The senates committee on the criminal code amendments today threw out the clause dealing with the publication of information regarding horse raping or any other form of sport iThis means that the law remains as it has been in recent years yearsWhen When the measure came before the com ¬ mittee W S Edwards deputy minister of justice said the bill would prohibit the pub ¬ lication of racing information by newspapers whether printed in Canada or imported Sir James Lougheed questioned how such a pro ¬ vision could be enforced against foreign newspapers How could you restrain them from coming into Canada for distribution questioned Sir James You would need a whole army of policemen policemenYou You would enforce it in the ordinary way that anyone selling or distributing such news ¬ papers would be liable to prosecution said Mr Edwards EdwardsThat That means that newspapers could not come into Canada CanadaSenator Senator R S White while opposed to the whole clause suggested an amendment which would have so modified it as to enable news ¬ papers to report races or other sporting events Senator Dandurand government leader expressed his willingness to accept this amendment but the whole clause was finally struck from the bill Senator Dan ¬ durand being the only dissentant
