April 1.",— Kohn and Theisens Kentucky Derby candidate Recol-lec:ion gave another demonstration of his advanced form when he worked a mile in 1:471k, at Churchill Downs this morning. It was easily the most impressive Derby gallop at the distance witnessed this spring at the local course. The workout was accomplished aver a slow track, and with a strong wind j sweeping the course The sudden drop in temperature had the affect of slowing up the .preparation of the Derby colts but did not alter the plans of leorge Y. Batata, trainer of Recollection. It was the colts regular work day, and his trainer decided to put him through his paces, regardless of the weather, with Harry Gray in the saddle. Accompanied by Barnesdale II. as work companion, Recollection began at the three-quarters post and worked back to that point. He was under a strong pull all the way. The fractions were: :2.".2.-.. :.".!, 1:1-1. 1:17%, 1:32*5. and 1 :471k. He was eased up the final eighth and came out of the trial in the best of condition. The Park view Stables Derby hope Ilhinock was also worked one mile. The son of Prince 1al ran the distance in 1 :5o. Cincinnati turfman, was sent a slow mile in 1 :.JS. Stalls in the big barn at Douglas Park are being bedded down for Carlaris and eight other horses W. T. Anderson is bringing here from Tijuana. Charlie Patterson, who broke Carlaris is arranging for the reception of Carlaris at the local track. He expects the colt to arrive here either Friday night or Saturday morning. The stable of C. H. Knebelkamp, in charge of Frank Rector, is due to reach here from Xew Orleans Friday morning. C. F. Patterson his arranged to ship his Derby candidate Malcolm B. jr.. and Critical Moments to Lexington next week. Mak-olm B Jr.. will be given a couple of races to fit him for his engagement in the Flue Grass Stakes. Sun Altos, crack sprinter in the G. F. Croissant stable, which has been raced steadily for the past year, will be given a rest. He has been sent to the farm of Joe Thomas to be turned out until fall. The mare. Royal Princess, which raced in New Orleans in charge of Will Perkins, is back in the stable of her owner Will P.lanton at Churchill Downs. George A. Bead, well known docker and handicapper. was a visitor at Churchill Downs Thursday morning. He arived from Hot Springs, Ark., where he has be en visiting since the close at New Orleans. Fie expects to leave in a day or two for New York. H. T. Archibald, who has been visiting hero for several days, left today for Lexington to inspect his stable of two-year-olds in chars;.-of George Walker at the track of the Kentucky Association. He- will also inspect the twenty -eight yearlings he acqured last fall. Nineteen of the youngsters are still at Coldstream Farm where they were foaled. Seven are at Tarltons Farm and two are quartered at the farm of W. S. Payne. The body of Howard P.arrett. sixteen-year-old jockey who died in the city hospital Wednesday night, was shipped to the home of his parents in Lexlagtoo today. P.arrett died from tubercular meningitis after being in the hospital less than two days. He arrived here last week from Miami, with the stable of Al C. Woodman, his contract employer, apparently in good health. He had ridden in a few races at Miami during the winter. lb- was a nephew of jexkev Newton P.arrett.
