JOHN MUSKER PASSES AWAY One of Englands Most Famous Breeders of Thoroughbreds Taken by Death. SPECIAL CABLEGRAM. LONDON, April 15. — John Musker. veteran breeder, died at Thetford, Norfolk. Wednes-dav morning after a long illness. He had I suffered from heart trouble. Musker is chiefly known because of the two great thor- j oughhred dispersal sales which marked his turf career. In 1906 his stock brought 21.-! 125 at auction and again in 1917 he sold two hundred horses, comprising his entire holdings, for a total of 10,000. Since 191S he I gathered another great stud and at the time Of his death he owned probably two hundred mares. Mr. Musker sold the famous race mare. Sceptre, in the 1917 sale. He also sold Maiden Krlegh. and Ambassador IV. to A. B. j Hancock, the American breeder. Maiden Krlegh. it w ill be recalled, was drowned when the steamship Minnehaha was torpedoed by the! Germans during the war. Hancock also | bought Constancy and Tuscan Ued. tiie dam of the 0,500 Man OWar filly. War Feathers. at that sale. Musker donated the money red Ived for Sceptre to the British red cross. Mr. Musker owned twelve thousand acres In Norfolk. One of his notable purchases was! that of Melton, the famous stock horse, from; the Italian government. The first crop of j two-year-olds by this stallion assured his success. Among the famous racers hied by Musker were William Kufus. Henrv The First. Kings Common, and First Flyer, winner of the Irish : Derby last year. During the last ten years he brad winners of about MM races. II,. had great commercial interests in London and was I the founder of a great chain grocery organization. He is survived b three sons. Cap-| tain Harold Musker. Major Herbert Musker and Percy Musker. all of whom are interested in racing and breeding. It is regarded as certain thai the Musker stud will be dispersed at public auction.
