NEW YORK TRAINERS BUSY I Return to Milder Weather Re- I fleeted in Activities at Belmont. • Iompey anil Chance Play Among Horses Seen Out — Powerful Kanroras Stable Arrives From Jobstown. A return to milder weather at Belmont Park this morn- g ing brought about renewed activity amonc t the trainers, who are preparing their charge s . for the opening of the m tropolitan racing | r .eason at Jamaica next Wednesday. The i main track was alive with horses during the early morning hours and considerable use- I fill work was recorded. Iompey. the three- i year-old son of Sun Briar and Cleopatra, i which is being pointed for the renewals of t the Hreakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby 1 was given a useful gallop of a mile in prep- i aration for a stiffer work on Kriday at the l same distance. Owner V. 11. Coe. accom- 1 panied by a party of friends, journeyed to t the course early in the morning and took keen interest in the gallops of all the two- 1 year-olds. Mr. Coe watched the work from 1 the t mers stan 1 in the center field, lom- I pey. in company wih Zuker and Back Ma- I ria. were in the second set brought out. The I set was cantered through the old straight- away to the training track and then led 1 over to the mile schooling chute. 1 Trainer Karrick had no intention of asking Iompey for a speed trial following his ? orders to Breuning to keep his mount well i in hand. The trio started together, but Pirn- i I ey was the quickest away. Breuning took | a firm hold of him and took back to his . stable companions. The early pace was slow l and not until the turn was reached did the | trio quicken the pace. Kenneth Karrick | watching the work from the stand, waved the trio along. The pace quickened slightly. three horses were under stout restraint. The ] mile was finished in 1 : : . Iompey will be , given his regular work on Kriday and it is ; likely that Zuker and Black Maria will be his companions. I R. L. Gerry, who races a pretentious stable ■ under George Odom. was another visitor who took considerable interest in his stable during the works. Mr. Gerry arrived on the , scene and, after inspecting the horses in the barn, joined trainer Odom watching them being exercised. Trainer Odom had his two-year-olds move along at three-eighths and a half mile. Chance Ilay. from the Ix g Cabin Stable, an eligible for the big three-year-old stakes, was given a speed test of Ihree-eighths by trainer Feustel in preparation for a longer work. The colt covered the three-eighths in :.1T and appeared in much better physical condition than for some time past. The other members of the stable were aso galloped over the main track. The powerful Rancocas Stable, in charge of Sam Hildretn. arrived from the farm at .Tobstown. New Jersey, and the horses were put away in the stable that he occupies each year. The shipment comprised twenty-nine head, thirteen of which are two-year-olds. Jockey [* Fator accompanied the stable. W. K Oliver arrived at Aqueduct from I.akewood with ten horses that he wintered at that poinL , John Doltus received a message from J. B. McKee. manager of the La Brae Stable of II. A. Cotton, stating that he would ship to • Belmont Bark if he could secure stable accommodations. W. A. Bead, who races a stable in charge of John Whalen is expected here from Kng-Iand in a week to confer about the summer campaign and new importations. A
