CLARENCE IN EASY TRIUMPH Scores by Comfortable Margir Over Corn Flower in Best Race at Beulah Park. COLUMBUS, Ohio. April Ml E MeCowna Clarence registered an easy victory in the fifth race Which served " as the principal attraction on the program at Beulah Park this afternoon. The winner took command in the* first quarter, gradually drew away into a comfortable lead thereafter and* was not extended, having a wide margin over Cornflower at the end. The latter raced in much improve-d form and was always in closest pursuit of the leader, but had to be shaken up at the" finish to save second place-from Star of Kve. One of the largest crowds of the meeting was in attendance, brought out by the warm summerlike we-ather. which prevailed and the rae*es were run over a much improved track than that of the past few da s. A surprise came with the running of the fourth race when Mary Connors well and hard ridden by jockey P. Powers, just lasted to gain the decision from Al Kripp at the end by a narrow margin. The latter forced j the winner along at a rapid pace throughout and was wearing her down in the final drive. ; Rebeck came from the rear in the final , eighth and got up in the closing stage-s for third place. W. A. Me-Kinneys Bed Weed, hard ridden in the closing stages of the third race, registered his se cond win of the meeting. Red Weed came- to the outside of the early leaders in the stretch and, closing gamely, got up near the end. Princess Jane set the early-pace and appeared to have the race- won entering the strete-h. but tired slightly in the I final dash. Little Betty held the others safe in the e-Iosing stages after showing a creditable race. Jockey P. Powers made it three winners f r the day in piloting Bay Dingle to victory in the sixth race. Rushing into the lead at once. Powers kept at the winner all the way and drew away into a good lead in the first eighth, but Bay Dingle had to be ridden out in the final eighth when Scatter Shot began gaining steadily. The task was too great, however, and tne best Se-atter Shot could do was to save second place by a wide margin from Wedding Prince. In the closing race J. J. Russells The-Fenian outstayed Mason Towle in a hard stretch drive, which ensued from the top of the home stretch to the finish line. The Fenian just lasted to gain the decision in the final stride. Master Blue came from behind in the run home and was pressing Mason Towle e-losely at the end. Coming from the rear in the stretch run, ifter working his way uo on the outside in the second race, Pentecosts Last drew clear I of opposition a sixteenth out and appeared an easy winner, but was hard pressed at the end and barely lasted to stall off Gleam The ; latter also came from far bae-k to get up in ! the closing stages and going fastest of all at [the end would have been second in another I stride-. Lucille Russell was tiring badly | but lasted to save- third place in the run home, after leading to the home stretch. In the initial dash of four and a half furlongs for juveniles, W. R. Padgetts Am I Early graduated from the maiden class in registering a well earned victory over Kama- kani in a hard drive whie-h e-nsue-d when the winner challenged Kamakani the early pacemaker entering the- stretch and out- | gamed the- latter in the run home to win by ! a slight margin. Colden Dust held the 1 other starters safe- for third.
