PIMLICO TURF NOTES BALTIMORE Md May 10 10George George A Sapportas has purchased Chief James and proposes to convert him into a jumper With Special Account another re ¬ cent purchase by Mr Sapportas he will be educated at the farm until the fall steeple ¬ chase season when both horses will be brought back to the races racesAmong Among those who entertained and were entertained at luncheon parties in the club houses before the races were Mrs Geo A Sapportas C C Sand N P Bond Chas Playford Mrs B H Brewster Jr IX S Gitting C B Penrose Mrs W F AVhitt Frank Riggs Major Bennett C I Reynolds Adm Carv T Grayson Jerry AAitiierspoon R AV Walden J 13 Davis Mrs Thco Cott man Dr Wm Dalton Baker AVaters J Howard Iewis Mrs Stetson John Mays little Miss Coady Mrs OToolc J Brooke Boyle F G Boyle Jr Judge Welch Fred Campbell Palmer Leight John B Miller Arthur White S L Stewart Mrs Brecken ridge Long W E Doeller C Hathaway Mrs Elliott Frank Guest W Brooke Philip P Harrison HarrisonMr Mr AVallis Armstrong the multimillionaire race horse breed was another Preakness visitor Mr Armstrong is tire owner of the Meadowview Stock Farms which is now the home of John P Grier and Vindex VindexJohn John J Brady Jr representative of the Thoroughbred Horsemans Association was a busy man out at Pimlico this morning He had arranged for the shipment of forty eight carloads of horses from Pimlico from May 10 to May 19 Three cars will pull out for Churchill Downs tomorrow on a fast train which will land at the Downs on Wednesday afternoon at 230 oclock In ¬ cluded in this shipment will be the Derby horses of Harry Payne Whitney AV J Sal ¬ mon J E Griffith and the Rancocas stable stableAt At the conclusion of the meeting here the shipments from Pimlico will include nineteen cars for Toronto twenty for the Long Island track one to Aurora 111 and five for Col linsville in Illinois The express companies just now are simply overloaded with orders for cars The Pennsylvania is sending thirty five cars to Ohio for shipment of horses from the tracks in that state to various other points and the Baltimore and Ohio have orders for twenty cars from owners racing on the Ohio circuit circuitA A division of the stable that R T Wilson and W J Salmon are racing here will be shipped direct from Pimlico to Woodbine The apprentice rider Woodward and B Thompson will accompany the stable to Canada which will be in charge of that capable horseman J Pryce PryceJockeys Jockeys Breuning Richards and McAtee came over from New York to ride in the Preakness McAtee and Breuning go to Kentucky to ride in the Derby DerbyJ J J Farrell Jr purchased at private sale of R T Wilson the plater Encamp The Farrell horses and those that A G Weston will race in Canada will be shipped in the same car carII II Rowlatt came down from Toronto to witness the running of the Preakness Mr Rowlatt is associated with the Ontario Jockey Club He reports that secretary AV P Frazier is improving steadily and is at the office three days a week looking after the details which come prior to the opening of an important race meeting meetingH H A Buck was among the prominent sportsmen who came over from New York to see the Preakness run runGovernor Governor Ritchie who was a guest of the Maryland Jockey Club witnessed the run ¬ ning of the Preakness from the stewards stand standSteward Steward Frank J Bryan is receiving en ¬ tries for the stakes to be run at the Brook line meeting All of the prominent owners of steeplechasers have made nominations to the four jumping events which will be run at this meeting meetingIndividual Individual tickets were sold on each of the fourteen starters in the Preakness which of course meant that there was no field in this stake stakeHarry Harry Payne AVIiitney accompanied by Payne Whitney and a party of friends made the trip to Baltimore in the AVhitney private car Both of the AVhitneys had representa ¬ tives in the Preakness
