NOTED HORSE HODGE DEAD LOIT1SYILLK Ky May 11 Kay Spenee was notified of the death of his once good handicap horse Hodge which took place at the Audley Farm Monday Death was caused by the horse being kicked in the head by another horse in the farms paddock JI edge was fifteen years old and during the past five years had been retired He was a geld ¬ ing by Ivan the Terrible Xannie Hodge and was bred by W W Darden near Nash ¬ ville Tenn Kay Spence took him from Harden out of a claiming race at Windsor when the gelding was a twoyearold and for nearly eight years he ran successfully in the Spence colors One of his best races Avas in the 1014 Kentucky Derby in which he fin ¬ ished second to Old Kosebud in record tinife for the race He also won the Clark Handi ¬ cap in two successive years and in a subse ¬ quent year finished third lie won stakes at all distances from threequarters to two miles On of hiv lies performances was his victory in the Louisville Cup of two miles at Douglas Park He also won the Hendrie Memorial Handicap at one mile and a eighth at Windsor
