LINCOLN FIELDS PROGRESS Chicagos New Race Track Fast Becoming a Reality Steel for Clubhouse Up and In Place Work Workon on Grandstand Under Way Three ThreeStables Stables Already Completed Lincoln Fields the milliondollar race track promised Chicago is fast becoming a reality A delightful ride down the Dixie Highway near Crete in Will County some thirty odd miles from the heart of Chicago where only a short time ago the urban picture of several wellkept farms greeted the eye now is pre ¬ sented a scene of activity that is transform ¬ ing as if by magic the rural surroundings into a miniature city of its own to be called Lincoln Fields which when completed will include one of the finest race tracks in the world a polo field and golf course courseLincoln Lincoln Fields is the project of which Col Matt J Winn the man that made the Ken ¬ tucky Derby the most famous race in this country is the directing manager and the rapidity which the undertaking is being rushed to completion despite vexatious delays caused by inclement weather is only an ¬ other tribute to the genius of one of the most successful of builders and developers of race tracks in the United States StatesA A visit to Lincoln Fields yesterday found all the steel for the massive and commodious clubhouse up and in place The beams which will support the immense grandstand are now pointing their nose skyward and that part of the work wlil be completed before many days daysThree Three stables are practically completed ex ¬ cept for the shingling of the roofs and the interior finishing These stables are erected just north of the turn into the home stretch and are the very newest type in stable con ¬ struction At either end are large sleeping quarters and room for tack and feed Another stable is under way the supports being all up and ground for still another one is being leveled and graded gradedAll All about the place is a spirit of activity The secretarys office is very nearly com ¬ pleted and will undoubtedly be put in use within a short time Work on the track proper and is going apace with the build ¬ ing operations Two large steam shovels are busily engaged in cutting away a few high spots near the first turn Tons and tons of steel are lying near the C E I spur which is on the west side of the Dixie Highway Approximately 300 men there may be as high as 500 arc busily at work at the present and more will be added as new phases of the work are started startedAll All in all wonders have been accomplished in the short time since the real cold weather broke and judging from the appearances of the plant today the newest and finest race course of Col Matt Winn will be ready when the opening is announced
