second place and Shasta Negra third Six started in the race Joan dAlbret being coupled with Forest Nymph NymphThe The winner displayed a surprising performance during the stretch racing She appeared hopelessly beaten after she had bolted at the stretch turn but came with terrific speed and overhauled Thirteen Sixty in the last seventy yards to win drawing away Thirteen Sixty also gave a fine exhibition for she began faultily and she was far back of the others when the barrier was raised This was due to her propping She displayed much speed and saving ground by staying close to the inner place The early part of the race found the leaders racing at a stiff pace closely grouped but when approaching the stretch there was a gradual elimination of the early contenders and Thirteen Sixty seemed to have the race won when Forest Nymph almost ran to the outer fence After Forest Nymph made her wide sweep she appeared hopelessly out of it and she furnished a great surprise by her terrific rush that carried her again into the lead leadIt It would have been difficult to conceive improvement on the sport furnished here this afternoon Perfect conditions prevailed and an attendance that rivalled the best that has been at the course was again on hand Track records were lowered in several instances and the finishes were close enough to suit the most exacting The public fared well from far back for the entire way H wayH D Browns Shasta Farmbred Shasta Bullet graduated from the maiden ranks in the second race which brought to the post seven youngsters His victory was attained in game style and he raced in record time equalling the mark made by Bellfont last year At that had Miles Prior been bene ¬ fited by a good ride he probably would have reversed the finish with the winner Laidley had him all over the track and was badly confused at the stretch turn whether to come to the inside or the outside Hesitancy was costly and he failed to overhaul the leader Prevail was the favorite in the race and he flattered by leading to the last eighth where he began giving way steadily The others were always outrun outrunBenefited Benefited by good riding Geo Groom proved easily
