CROWD AKSARBEN FIELD Big Gathering Witnesses Satur ¬ days Excellent Program Lord Julian Scores OMAHA Neb June 5 One of the larg ¬ est crowds that ever attended an afternoons sport at AkSarBen field thronged that spacious course today to witness the running of the first halfholiday program The seven races that were put on for their approval were of good calibre and attracted some of the best thoroughbreds quartered here The feature piece was the Council Bluffs Han ¬ dicap which carried a value of 1200 an l eight good ones faced starter Donovan J W Marchbanks crack colt Lord Julian was the winner but although clearly the best he only scored by the narrowest of margins from Pirate Gold The winner was on the outside all the way and was forced to the center of the track at the stretch head but gamely held to his task and made good Pirate Gold closed fast to earn second place and Gad was third thirdKremlin Kremlin made a show of the rivals opposed to him in the opening dash This was a five and a half furlong sprint and attracted the largest field of the afternoon The winner went to the front before the field had gone a quarter and once in command kept increas ¬ ing his lead to the finish Maimonides raced strongly through the stretch to take second place while Lura was third Col R It Baker won his first race of the meeting when Tied Head was successful in the second The winner was backed with confidence and she made good with a venge ¬ ance She was rated in behind the leaders in the early running and taking command when ready won easing up Perriehon the second choice raced to second place while Seth Lean was third Jockey Buel who was astride Perriehon was so anxious to get a good start that he disobeyed the starters instructions for which he was assessed 25 25The The best finish of the meeting came with the running of the third race when five horses came down to the finish line heads and noses apart with Emma Hoagland a longpriced one getting the verdict Emma hugged the rail turning into the stretch and this was responsible for her victory As the horses flashed past the finish line it was plain to be seen that she was victorious but the second and third horses were in doubt until the official numbers were posted Big Sapp the early pacemaker was given second place and Al Hotfoot third place placeA A fair band of sprinters competed in the fourth and Publisher was the winner He was well ridden by the veteran Cochran and stayed right at the heels of Follow Me the pacemaker to the stretch where he came to the outside and shaking off Clarence which was measuring strides with him drew away into a long lead near the end Melu chrino the second horse ran a smashing race coming from far back to finish with a rush Clarence was third Judge Pryor was installed favorite but he was never prominent and finished next to last
