, CONSISTENT AND HONEST Percentage of Winning Favorites for Past 22 Tears Proves the Stability of Racing. Figures do not He. It Is an old and true proverb. The aforesaid proverb speaks eloquently and convincingly in behalf of thoroughbred racing. It tells In no uncertain terms of the consistency and general honesty of racing. It presents proof, incontestable proof, that year after year racing, as conducted on the principal tracks of the American turf is what its millions of adherents claim for it — honest and wholesome sport. For twenty-two years, from 1905 to 1926, inclusive, the percentage of winning first choices on North American race courses was .40, glorious testimonial to the integrity of one of the most fascinating and popular of outdoor sports. Not in any one year of the last twenty-two has the percentage of winning favorites fallen below .39, even though the number of races each year varied from the low mark of :,,968 in 1918 to the high figure of 12.065 in 1926. This is a wonderful record, considering that the figures include the racing of a continent, the large and small tracks of Canada. Cuba. British Columbia, Mexico, as well as the many scattered throughout the United States, from the magnificent courses in New York. Maryland. Illinois, Kentucky and Louisiana to the less pretentious ones located elsewhere. These are racing figures which do not lie and a recapitulation of them, year for year, from 1905 to 1926. inclusive, provides substantial testimony of the general honesty of racing.
