PIMLICOS SPRING MEETING Program Book in Hands of Horsemen — Total Distribution of 26,000 in Added Money. BALTIMORE. Md., April 14— The book of the Pimlico Spring Meeting from May 2 to 14 inclusive, has been issued by the Maryland Jockey Club, and has been compiled with the careful attention to details characteristic of that popular racing organization. It is of interest to all turfmen with an especial appeal to owners, trainers, and breeders, as the handsome sum of 36.1,00 will be added during the twelve day meeting, with overnight purses of ,300. ,500, and ,000, giving every owner a royal chance to earn expensive feed bills. Then the trainer of the winner of each race is presented with 0 by the Maryland Jockey Club, while the breeder of the winner, if from the Pnited States, Canada, or Cuba, or the importer, if from any other country, is awarded 0 in overnight races, and 00 in stake events, and if the horse is foaled in Maryland the amount is doubled. It can readily be seen that all branches of the sport are benefited by the liberal policy adopted by the Maryland Jockey lub. and that it is appreciated is shown by the fact that every stall has been reserved at | Pimlico for the meeting, the overflow being I taken care of at Timonium, whence horses | are vanned free of charge for their engage- I ments. There is a stake scheduled for nearly every day, starting off with the 5,000 Dixie Handicap on the first day, the 0,000 Preakness on Monday, May H, and the Pimlico Spring Handicap, ,500. on the closing day. I In between are the tlreen Spring Valley Steeplechase, ,000 added, on Saturday, j May 7, which will bring together for the first time this season all the leading cross ! country performers in training. The Pimlico Nursery. Rennert Handicap, Pimlico Oaks, and Spring Juvenile, have an added value of ,000 each ; the Jennings Handicap ,000, and the Pimlico Homebred ,500, wiui a piece of plate to the breeder of the winner. All the stakes, with the exception of the Dixie, which closed in January with J6 nominations, closed Monday, April 4, and while the entries have not yet been compiled, there is no question but that in number and quality they will fully measure up to the standard of previous years. In keeping with the custom of former meetings, attractive names have been given to the different overnight events, such as Ashburton, Druid Hill, Hampden. Wicomico. Iatapsco, Cuilford, Gunpowder, Harford, Hilltop, lovans, Towson, Pikesville, Annapolis, and Chesapeake, thus giving a delightful local flavor to the daily program. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, have been selected for the steeplechases, which will be run as the first event, the races starting at 2 ::10 p. m. each day. and the Pimlico Craded Handicaps will be run on Wednesday. May 11. all at three quarters mile. The young element is well taken care of. as seventeen events are scheduled for two-year-olds. The book is an excellent one, from every point of view, and copies can be obtained from Mr. Francis O. Riggs, Secretary, 52:5 Lquitahle Building, Baltimore.
