DOUBLE FOR P1CHON Pilots Traymore and Critic to Vic ¬ tory at Fairmount Park Eespess Racer Rules an OddsOn OddsOnFavorite Favorite in Feature Race and andRuns Runs Fast ThreeQuarters COLLINSVILLE 111 June 6 The good fiveyearold Traymore with jockey L Pichon in the saddle successfully carried the colors of J B Respess to victory over his opponents in the East St Louis Junior Cham ¬ ber of Commerce Purse principal attraction at Fairmount Park this afternoon This race which came fifth on the program was an allowance affair over threequarters in which Traymore marked up fast time for the run ¬ ning of that distance galloping the three quarters in 1 12 the fastest time of the meeting for the distance lowering the mark of 1 13 previously made by Queen Clara in the third race this afternoon afternoonPichon Pichon scored a double for the afternoon having previously piloted Critic to victory in the race for maiden colts and geldings Tray ¬ more won handily from Mazetta with Frog gate up after permitting the latter to set the pace until the turn into the home stretch was made where Traymore gradually wore down the leader and conquering him easily got to the finish a length in advance and with plenty of speed in reserve Mazetta re ¬ tained second place while uie Audley Farm Stables Alice McLuke was easily third hold ¬ ing that position safe from the start The start was a good one but Alice McLuke was a tardy beginner while Red Leather one of the starters was a decided laggard and followed the three some distance back backTRAYMORE TRAYMORE FAVORITE FAVORITETraymore Traymore was heavily supported and went to the post an oddson favorite and pro ¬ ceeded to win in accordance with the con ¬ fidence placed in him by his backers backersTodays Todays races were contested over a slight ¬ ly improved and dried out track which was remarkably fast Favorites performed fairly well making the public fairly successful in their quest for winners The attendance was greatly enhanced by the continuance of favor ¬ able weatner for the sport sportMrs Mrs G L Hoffmans fouryearold Copper shine making his first start here since his arrival from Churchill Downs ran a good race in the inaugural contest and finishing with good speed gamely got up in the final stages of a hard drive to take the decision from Colonel Winn in the final stride de ¬ feating the latter by a head for the purse Colonel Winn set the early pace and was in the lead to the last ten yards but was unable to stall off the winners challenge and took second place The favorite Blue Granite wound up in tiiird place after a fairly good effort Polk Laffoon accounted for another purse when the twoyearold colt Critic took the measure of a good band of maiden colts and geldings which started in the second race at fiveeighths Mac Maxim was a fast finishing second and was racing in a man ¬ ner to suggest that at a longer distance he would probably have been the winner Gaineswood landed in third place Jack W Jr and Gaineswood led alternately to the head of the stretch where Gaineswood came wide permitting Jack W Jr to assume command The others began closing up fast at an eighth out and Jack W Jr suddenly gave way finishing badly beaten Near the end Critic coming on the outside raced into command and held his slight lead safely to the finish while Mac Maxim outgamed Gaineswood GaineswoodQUEEX QUEEX CLARA IX FRONT FRONTAnother Another good band of platers started in the third race over threequarters and the fastest time for the distance of the meeting was chalked up by E McQuans fouryear old filly Queen Clara which raced down in front in 113 to win easily from C Irbys Shasta Love while Quanah was third thirdQueen Queen Clara set the pace and was closely followed by Quanah to the turn into the home stretch Shasta Love was a forward factor and raced gamely while the others were following more or less strung out Turning into the stretch Queen Clara dis ¬ posed of Quanah and held a good lead the end while Shasta Love overhauled Quanah for second place in the last eighth eighthThe The first longdistance race of the day over a mile and a quarter resulted in a close and exciting finish with the Missouri Stables Grass Maid the winner when she got up in the final strides to wrest the decision from Stars and Stripes by a nose Stars and Stripes was rated along in the lead to half way down the home stretch while Grass Maid raced in closest pursuit also under re ¬ straint Chief Tierney Sir Maurice and Tick Took were within striking distance The order of running was unchanged until on the stretch turn where Grass Maid began to draw up on the leader while Tick Tock moved into third place when Chief Tierney failed to keep up An eighth out Grass Maid caught Stars and Stripes and when urged hard got up at the end to down him In the final strides
