SMUT BEIJINNER moved up fast on the outside after rounding the far turn, then came through next to the inner rail on the turn for home and took a clear lead in the last hundred yards. MADDENSTOWN showed fine speed in pacemaking and outgamed JIMMIE SHANNON in the final drive. The latter raced into a brief lead after enttring the stretch, but tired.
