Stampdale won from ; the fastest sprinters in training racing at the Aurora course. With jockey J. Leyland up, Stampdale succeeded in winning from Sixty by a head margin. Sixty, always a ; keen factor, forced Stampdale to the limit in order for the latter to finally emerge Victorious and easily annexed second place. Orestes II.. a tired horse at the finish, proved best for third place. Margaret Gaut and . Voshell made up the remainder of the field which started. Sixty set the pace to the stretch turn, j closely attended by Stampdale and Orestes XL Orestes II. was responsible for forcing ; the pace, which ultimately resulted in his undoing. Sixty had him raced into submis-| sion at the head of the stretch. Sixty and I Stampdale then moved away from Orestes II., with Stampdale getting up to hold Sixty . safe in the last eighth, the winner gamely : maintaining his slight advantage to the end, I in a long and strenuous stretch drive. Stampdale ruled a slight favorite over Sixty, both of them being in great demand. Showers fell at intervals during the fore- ; noon and occasionally during the racing, but favorable conditions finally prevailed for the ; greater part of the afternoon. The track was j dulled considerably by the frequent down- I pours, but remained in a condition that was : not worse than slow. ITSET CALCULATIONS. The seven-year-old Volt made good in the I opening race, but upset calculations and caused the defeat of the heavily backed fa- yorite. Blue Granite. The latter raced well under a big impost after a delay at the j post and was in the lead during the stretch racing but, when inside the last sixteenth, j began tiring and was unable to withstand the rush of Volt, but saved second place. I Bobs Best, another well-played one, was outrun in the early stages, but saved much ground in the stretch, getting up for third money. Monastery was in front at one stage, but lost whatever chance he might have had of winning by bolting to the outside nearing the stretch entrance. Sturdy Stella, racing for H. Torriente, made , a, runaway of the second race and, racing in her best form, won easily in a canter by five lengths over Our Buddy. The latter beat Vulnerable by four lengths for second place. Vulnerable, an outsider, finished in third place when the favorite, Sanction, ran a bad race and failed to be a factor for the first quarter mile. Sturdy Stella immediately raced into a long lead and never left the result In doubt. Our Buddy was always in nearest pursuit of the winner, but was unable to threaten her. The Irwin Live Stock and Show Company Stable scored a double victory for the afternoon, when Volt won the initial race and the two-year-old gliding Black Darling was "winner of the third race, for juveniles, the Yorkville Purse, in Which Coal Black was made favorite. Black Darling won at the expense of Glad Effort, an outsider, while Coal Black managed to garner third place. Goal P»la k showed the most speed going to the first quarter and was in the lead to near the stretch turn, but began to tire and was passed by Glad Effort, Black Darling racing in third position, right in their wake. Clad Effort came gamely in the stretch, but •was no match for the winner when the latter, after disposing of Coal Plack, made a strong bid for the lead and proceeded to draw away to win by fonr lengths, PROVE WINNING COMBINATION. Mrs. R. Pollards Gold Mint and jockey J. Parmeiee proved the winning combination in the sixth race, a three-quariers dash, and Cold Mint took the measure of Thrace. Sir John K. and five other platers. Gol 1 Mint ruled a favorite. Rare sameness was displayed here on the part of both horse and .rider, while at the post Gold Mint was badly Licked in the shoulder by Pat Field, and Jockey Parmeiee was also struck by the hoofs of Pat Field, receiving a nasty blow on the right foot. Parmeiee was painfully hurt, but rode out the race. After the race he had to Le carried to the Jockeys quarters, where he Underwent examination by the track p.ysi-ician and an X-ray will be taken of his foot jto determine if there are any broken bones. Continued on twenty -fourth rage. ELLIS COLORS SCORE Continued from first page.* Another favorite scored for the form players in the sixth race, when the well-played Mary-Dale, favored with light weight and racing in her best form, proved the best stayer over the mile and a quarter route, to be winner by a safe margin from First Dance, the latter second, only a nose in advance of Samaron. Mary-Dale did the early leading and set a good pace to near the last eighth. Samaron threatened and did succeed in passing Mary-Dale into a small lead, but he began tiring and, when Mary-Dale came again at the end, he failed to cope with her, relinquishing the lead. First Dance then caught Samaron in the last stride and nosed him out of second place.
