FLIMSY BEST IN OAKS Defeats Her Grace and Snowflake at Pimlico Course Beelzebub Finishes First in Green GreenSpring Spring Valley Steeplechase SteeplechaseBut But Is Disqualified BALTIMORE Md May 3 The Maryland Jockey Club provided as attractions at Pim ¬ lico this afternoon the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase and the Pimlico Oaks two stake races that always attract much interest from local racegoers Something out of the ordi ¬ nary happened in the running of the steeple ¬ chase when Beelzebub which finished first and Eider which finished fourth were dis ¬ qualified This moved Grumpier into first place and Rooney was placed second and Polish which was fifth at the finish was placed third The cause for official action was for the reason that Eider ran around the beacon going to the ninth fence and carried Beelzebub out with him himThe The Pimlico Oaks which was run as the fifth race brought ten to the post and the Harry Payne Whitney stable furnished the winner in the black filly Flimsy which de ¬ feated Ral Parrs Her Grace by a head after a long hard stretch drive Walter J Sal ¬ mons Snowflake was third and the Mont pelier Farms Lost Agnes was fourth Flimsy was ridden by A Robertson and when the start came tha latter rushed his mount to the front and in the run around the first turn opened up a lead of three lengths Straightened out on the back stretch Robert ¬ son took Flimsy in hand and rated her under slight restraint Lost Agnes was racing in second place and then came Snappy Snub and Snowflake SnowflakeGoing Going to the half mile post Schaefer sent Snowflake up and she was racing head and head with Lost Agnes Flimsy was still a length to the good and racing well and Fator had Her Grace far back in eighth place As they came into the stretch Schae ¬ fer made his move with Snowflake and she raced into second place Fator had brought Her Grace up on the inside and she was fourth All of the leaders were under a drive and Her Grace was gradually gain ¬ ing The finish was a desperate one and in the last sixteenth Flimsy began to bear out outBY BY SMALLEST OF 3IARGIXS 3IARGIXSFlimsy Flimsy was tiring badly at the end and Just managed to last long enough to beat Her Grace by a nose Snowflake finished third another length back It was poor luck for Her Grace to lose Tommy Rodrock saddled a good looking colt by Ed Crump for Miss K E Hitt in the first race when he sent Forte to the post Forte was in with Schooner and All Hail two colts that had shown up well in their previous efforts and consequently his chances were given serious consideration by stable connections In all of his eight previous efforts he was never worse than third He won twice was second four times and third twice All Hail in his two starts finished second and third and in one of these races was beaten by a length by Happy Scot ScotThe The running of the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase was marred by a mixup goinf to the ninth jump where Eider bolted to the outside of the beacon and carried Beelze ¬ bub with him My Own followed the pair and also went out of the course Thorn dyke started to pull up but decided to continue and he finished the course beat ¬ ing Crumper out a head in a driving fin ¬ ish Romany finished third five lengths away and then came Eider two lengths back and four in front of Polish which finished fifth fifthThe The judges evidently acting on instruc ¬ tions from the stewards made Crumper the winner and placed Rooney second and Polish third This of course meant that Beelze bub and Eider were disqualified disqualifiedThey They were a good lot of fencers twelve starters and all but War Flier finished the course without mishap In the early stages Malvosin dashed to the front and fencing in bold fashion drew away until he had a lead of three lengths over Beelzebub At the eighth fence Eider had moved up and took this fence head and head with the pace ¬ maker Beelzebub which had been rating along under slight restraint then moved up only to be carried out of the course He con ¬ tinued on running strong and fencing clean and for the remainder of the trip was never headed At the last jump Crumper and Rooney collided just as they landed rnd Crumper was knocked off his stride Quickly recovering he came on again and at the end was gradually gaining on Beelzebub BeelzebubThe The race called for a journey over the twomile course had an added value of 5000 and was worth 4940 net to the win ¬ ner Incidentally it marked a double for Trainer Rodrock who had saddled Fortec in the opener openerDOUBLE DOUBLE VOU II P WHITNEY WHITNEYSummer Summer Day a filly by Chicle Maud Muller in the Harry Payne Whitney stable that has been considered as above the or ¬ dinary finally made good this afternoon after several disappointing performances She had the inside post position and R Workman was in the saddle Summer Day was made favorite and Imaginary second choice The Whitney filly beginning better than in her previous efforts was off in second position but before they had gone a furlong she was out in front leading Fay lin a length Uncle Sam was third three lengths in front of Imaginary The last named was in front leaving the gate but for some reason dropped out of contention the first sixteenth Imaginary raced in the mid ¬ dle of the track the entire trip going wide at the turns At the end she came from behind to close with a belated rush to be beaten a scant half length for second place by Huntingdon Summer Day was the win ¬ ner by a length and she was doing her best all the last furlong
