COMSTOCKERY WINNER Greentree Stable Colt First in Kings County Handicap Rosedale Stakes for Fillies Falls Fallsto to Benj Blocks Morshion Jamaicas Largest Crowd NEW YORK N Y May 3 Comstockery the fouryearold son of Chicle Prudish which races for the Greentree Stable won the Kings County Handicap after a game finish at Jamaica today It was the big race of a holiday card that brought out one of the largest crowds in the tracks history The prize had a value of 5750 to the winner and Hebert had the mount mountA A companion race to the Kings County Handicap was the Rosedale Stakes a five furlong race for juvenile fillies and it saw Benjamin Blocks Morvich filly Morshion an easy winner In addition to these specials the card was a particularly interesting one and it was sport that was remarkable for its close finishes finishesTo To win the Kings County Handicap Com ¬ stockery was rated well back of the pace to come with a winning rush in the stretch and beat Frisius from the Belair Stud Stable with Robert L Gerrys Ironsides finishing third Cassidy had no end of trouble with the half dozen that went to the post and Comstockery and Hard Tack were the chief offenders while Ironsides was kicking and he landed on both Panuco and Son o Battle the J F Byers pair It was twelve minutes before a start could be effected and as they left Hard Tack swerved and was away slowly though the others left in good align ¬ ment Maiben hustled Panuco along to set the pace and McAtee sent Ironsides after him while Son o Battle was racing third and well before Frisius which in turn was lead ¬ ing Comstockery with Hard Tack in the rear rearMaiben Maiben carried Ironsides along at a fast pace down the back stretch when he had Panuco two lengths clear and McAtee fol ¬ lowed him with the Gerry horse Son o Battle was holding to third place and there was no change in the running positions of the others though they had gained some ground when the half mile post was reached reachedPHISIUS PHISIUS THREATENS THREATENSIt It was after turning out of the back stretch that Ironsides moved up to Panuco but the imported horse was not through and they went along closely lapped until something was taken out of Ironsides though it cost Panuco his chance Son o Battle was not good enough to take advantage of this pace making by his companion and then it was that Frisius made a threatening move moveThere There was a general closing up a furlong from home and Frisius gradually wore down Ironsides and Panuco to take the lead but it was only for a few strides Comstockery was rushing up on the outside and he passed the finish a length to the good Fris ¬ ius had beaten the tired Ironsides by a length and a half for second place and tha Gerry horse was four lengths before Panuco PanucoBenjamin Benjamin Blocks homebred Morshion the brown daughter of Morvich and Cushion came right back with an excellent race when she led home the fillies that opposed her in the Rosedale Stakes This was confined to juvenile fillies and it carried a net value of 4700 to the winner Herbert Bayard Swopes well named Wee Drop by reason of her size took second place and H P Whitneys Chene just beat Mrs Hertz Risque a stablemate of Wee Drop for third thirdMorshion Morshion a particularly alert filly at the barrier began fast and Ellis hustled her right along to such good advantage that the result was never seriously in doubt It was a victory similar to her triumph in the Montauk Claiming Stakes for she had plenty left at the finish and was three lengths to the good goodWee Wee Drop drew the outside post position in the field of eleven that started but that proved no serious disadvantage when she rapidly moved into the contention but it was Chene that was giving the winner oppo ¬ sition the Swope filly running third with Risque also in a forward position It was not until he headed for the finish that Ellis really asked Morshion to run and then it was apparent that she had plenty left In the meantime Wee Drop had been forced to lose some ground in the stretch and in the final eighth she outgamed Chene to beat her by a length for second place Risque followed her stablemate closely and the others followed along in strungout order orderCLOSE CLOSE FINISH IN OlEXEU OlEXEUA A great finish resulted in the opening race for platers when Charon from the Newton dale Stable under a good ride by George Rose just beat home T Jacobs Rock Dun with Swatter from the Niagara Stable lead ¬ ing St llenell for third The start was a good one and while Kelsay sent St Henell to the front he was headed by Lagrango and Charon at once St Henell had the in ¬ side position and was soon in close quarters and so securely pocketed that he could not stride freely Charon and Lagrange were closely lapped turning out of the back stretch and there Rock Dun was rushed up on the outside by Bethel until he joined the leaders Charon was hanging on well but Lagrange was finding the pace too fast and was show ¬ ing signs of tiring while St llenell by this time was well back of the leaders leadersLagrange Lagrange plainly doing his best showed the way into the stretch but Rock Dun and Charon were right with him and Swatter was making up ground in fourth place Then it was Lagrange that tired and as he dropped back Rock Dun and Charon drew away to stage a stirring finish with Rose just having Charon winner by a nose The final battle took the pair of them out two lengths before Swatter and St Henell had gained some ground when he beat the tired Lagrange for fourth fourthThe
