DOUBLE FOR RIDDLE Battleship Gray and Allez Vite Win at Pimlico Pimlico Graded Handicaps Mary ¬ land Jockey Clubs Attractions Over Shady Graduates BALTIMORE Mel May 7 The Maryland Jockey Club provided as its attractions at Pimlico this afternoon the Pimlico Graded Handicaps run in three divisions as classes A B and C The best band went to the post in the Class A and this race was run as the third The winner came from the Glen Riddle Farm Stable in Battleship Gray the handsome son of Man o War from Alice Blue Gown one of J O Keenes choicest matrons at Keeneland Stud in Ken ¬ tucky tuckyGuessing Guessing the twoyearolds here this spring is something of a lottery Yesterday Over Shady showed nothing in her race and was beaten by eight lengths Today she came back to score a runaway victory in the sec ¬ ond Morrison who rode yesterday had the mount this afternoon Beginning second Over Shady was soon in front leading Re ¬ doubtable by a small margin The pair raced in close order until the last sixteenth when Over Shady began going away and at the end she had a margin of one length to spare Ambrose was driving Redoubtable hard in the last furlong Light Step after a very slow beginning finished third two lengths and a half back of Redoubtable There was strong backing for Sand Play but he lacked speed and at no time during the running was dangerous dangerousBattleship Battleship Gray ridden by J McCoy was a well backed favorite and went to the post at oddson Dominating the race from the start Battleship Gray set all the pace and at the end won in easy fashion by a length from the Sagamore Stables Coin Collector which beat J R Thompson Jrs Minotaur by three lengths for second place The win ¬ ner ran the six furlongs in 112 the first quarter in 23 and the half mile in 47 47PERFECT PERFECT KACKTC CONDITIONS CONDITIONSToday Today was a perfect one for outdoor sport Summerlike weather prevailed and it brought out the full quota of regulars It was a great afternoon for the Philadelphia sports ¬ man Samuel Riddle Horses from his stable scored a double when Battleship Gray came back to win the feature race after Allez Vile galloped to an easy victory in the second race Both winners are by the Glen Riddle Farms great stallion Man o War which made their victories all the more pleasing to their popular owner Pimlico always was a lucky place for the Riddle racers and now that they have come back to participate in the sport at this famous old racing ground the Riddle colors should be seen in front more frequently than in the past few years yearsThe The Glen Riddle Farm Stable sprung a surprise in the first race when Allez Vite a filly by Man o War galloped home to an easy victory There were nine starters and Imaginary on the strength of her previous efforts which were good ones was made the favorite A bungling ride cost Imaginary the race Schaefer appeared unable to get her going in the early stages and when he made his move in the stretch came on the inside only to be blocked in the last sixteenth Imaginary was then taken up sharply and sent to the outside and at the finish was beaten three lengths by Allez Vite ViteEXTItEMELY EXTItEMELY FAST PACE PACESue Sue S threatened to score in runaway fash ¬ ion taking the lead soon after the start and drawing away to open up a two lengths lead on her opponents At the furlong post she appeared to have the others beaten When the final drive came she tired and at the end finished third a length and a half back of Imaginary For some reason Imaginary was slow to find her stride She began well enough but in the first furlong dropped back to fifth place The pace was fast the first half mile being run in 4S and this probably accounted for fmaginarys failure to keep up upBlue Blue Darter scored a lucky victory when he beat the favorite Rejuvenation by a head in the fourth race This was a dash of one mile and a furlong for which Re ¬ juvenation went to the post an even money favorite Quackenbush had the mount Har ¬ vard led around the first turn but straight ¬ ened out on the back stretch Blue Darter went to the front Rejuvenation was racing second and Quackenbush was sitting straight up in the saddle On the far turn he moved up to Blue Darter and was still standing up in the stirrups In the stretch it looked as if Quackenbush expected the leader to come back to him and when he finally realized that Blue Darter was in a run ¬ ning mood and was not coming back he immediately got busy His effort came too late however and in the final drive Blue Darter hanging on with splendid courage lasted long enough to stall off Rejuvena lions challenge Four lengths back of Re ¬ juvenation came Jack Hawksley which got up1 in time to beat the tiring Cogwheel by a length
