MAY ESCAPE FIRING IRONS Dedicate Undergoes Operation for forRuptured Ruptured Sheath r Begin BeginTraining Training Colt Soon LOUISVILLE Ky May 7 There is ii re ¬ mote chance according to John S Ward his trainer and part owner that Dedicate the star threeyearold which went amiss while campaigning at Lexington two weeks ago may be returned to racing without undergoing firing treatment Some few days ago Dedicate underwent a delicate opera ¬ tion for a rupture of the sheath protect ¬ ing the tendons of his left knee and the operation may return the colt to a sound condition Ward said Considerable secre ¬ tion was drained from the vicinity of the rupture and when healed the sheath is ex ¬ pected to do the work nature intended intendedIf If later experiments indicate need of the firing irons such will be applied but until then Dedicate will be sent along in light training without treatment for a tightening of his tendons tendonsNotwithstanding Notwithstanding his return to training the colt is definitely out of the Kentucky Derby and it will be some time before he re ¬ sumes racing regardless of the success of the recent operation
