HIALEAH INAUGURAL WEIGHTS j Flying Heels Assigned 126 Pounds for Miami Headliner. Vander Pool Given One Pound Less Than Son of Flying Ebony Both Ready to Race. MIAMI, Fla., Jan. 9 John J. Curtis Flying Heels, hero of the 1929 Pimlico and Tijuana Futurities and, since a feared member of the eastern cup colony, has been honored with top weight in the Hialeah Inaugural Handicap, the ,500 event over six furlongs, which will be the feature of the opening of the new Fairyland of the turf at Hialeah Park, Thursday, January 14. The fleet son of the Derby winner, Flying Ebony, is asked by racing secretary John S. Wallace, to carry 126 pounds. Trainer J. Simon Healey has had the Curtis ace training steadily since his arrival here some weeks ago, and the horse is considered a certain starter. Vander Pool, the sensational son of Camp-fire and Bramble Rose, which won fifteen of the sixteen starts during his career, has been assigned 125 pounds, one pound below Flying Heels. This four-year-old was recently purchased from the Tennessee Stable by William M. Moore, the New York sportsman, and will run under the latters silka for the first time in the Inaugural, trainer D. R. McDaniel declares. Vander Pool has been training sensationally, and his leg ailment has been completely cured, reports the young trainer. Mays Charleigh is allotted 115 pounds. H. M. Woolfs mare, Lady Broadcast, is assigned 114 pounds, R. W. Collins Don Leon, one of the most rapid beginners in this country, and the Brookmeade Stables Helianthus, both are handicapped at 113 pounds. Peto, from the Belair Stud, also carries 113 pounds, one pound more than Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Lightning Bolt, winner of the 1931 Florida Derby. Weights for the Hialeah Inaugural Handicap, Thursday, January 14. Three-year-olds and over, closed November 20, 1931, with sixty-one nominations.
