PORT HARLEM began fast and, taking a short lead in the first fifty yards, was then steadied In front and, withstanding repeated challenges from PLEASE in the final three-eighths, held him safe in the linal drive. PLEASE, under light early restraint, moved up menacingly entering the stretch, but could not overtake the winner. TANTALIZING gained gradually, improved his position in the last quarter mile, and was racing resolutely in the last strides. GLENSIDE was under punishment in the stretch and could not get up. TRY SWEET, away fast, swerved out after the start and was quickly straightened out, opened up a commanding lead in the first eighth, but was sharply ridden to retain the lead. STRAIT JACKET was gaining near the end. BOOTERSTOWN, fractious at the post, began well and, responding under strong urging, outlasted BIG LEAGUER. The latter was in close quarters in the final sixteenth. BAD TIMES finished well. BESPANGLED and DAUDET were bumped off their strides immediately after the start. OIL QUEEN, away fast, held the others safe and" racing SONG HIT into defeat on the turn into the stretch, drew out in the last eighth, but tired and was under vigorous pressure to withstand the challenge of JAMES RIVER. The latter, a factor throughout, finished gamely when called upon in the last eighth and, shaking off SONG HIT, could not overhaul the winner. SONG HIT, unlucky at the start, moved up with a rush on the outside in the first three-sixteenths arid raced close to the leader, then tired badly in the stretch, but was not threatened by the others.
