WENT TO POST 2:16. AT POST 4 minutes. Start good out of machine. Won easily; second and third driving. POP GAFFNEY, at home in the going, took command at once and, setting a fast pace for half a mile, shook off MORDROM, then opened up a commanding load when straightened out in the stretch and won in hand. PLEASE appeared to sprawl in the going in the early stages, but closed resolutely in the closing quarter and easily disposed of MORDROM. The latter, a forward contender in the early stages, tired in the stretch, but was not menaced by the others. DRESS SHIP saved ground, but was never a serious factor. ENRO was finished after entering the stretch. MIKE REYNOLDS, away forwardly, showed a liking for the going, assumed command in the first eighth and was drawing away at the end. HILDUR ROCK, racing straight all the way, held on gamely and outlasted ROME VENNIE. The latter began fast, but was in close quarters between the two leaders in the final three-sixteenths and unable to find clear racing room. BLACK ANDY, close up all the way, finished fastest of all but the leaders. HELIOS raced green and may improve with the effort. SEYMOUR propped at the start. PARNELL BOUND, favored by the going, followed close to the leader under light restraint until reaching the stretch turn, where he took command while bearing out, but was quickly straightened out and drew away at the eighth post, then tired and was under punishment ,to maintain his advantage. HAMILTON began fast and showed good early speed, responded gamely in the stretch and was wearing down the winner. WHILEAWAY, weakly ridden, dropped far out of it in the first quarter, but gained fast entering the stretch, only to swerve out thereafter. BACKWOODSMAN was outrun all the way. PEGGS PRIDE ran away, twice, going the reverse way of the track for five-eighths, once before and again after the start. REPENTANCE, hard urged, improved his position in the last quarter. KNOWLTON was close up in the early stages. ROYAL RUFFIN did not appear to like the going. RIP VAN WINKLE was outrun. THURSDAY, outrun early, responded resolutely under pressure, but took a tiring swerve in the last sixteenth and bumped MAREVE off her stride. The latter raced forwardly for half a mile, then tired. MISS TULSA outbroke the others, but was taken back and finished resolutely. PREPARE, taken back early, wore down LUCKY JACK. The latter, hard ridden and saving ground throughout, had no mishaps. IRON CZAR moved up resolutely on the turn, then was not persevered with. HERKIMER was crowded back leaving the back stretch and was never a serious factor thereafter. LANSON tired after half a mile. MAE SWEEP opened up a big gap after the start, was then rated in front and held on gamely, but was no match for the winner. DESERVE, a factor, improved his position steadily under strong handling and finished fastest of all. CATHERINE FOX appeared to slip in the going and could not improve her position.
