The latter, a prominent factor throughout, responded gamely when called upon and was steadily wearing down the winner. CHIANTI worked his way up on the "outside and outlasted PATRICK CALLAHAN. DARTER began slowly from outside the machine. MEDICINE BOW showed the most early speed. HERKIMER began fast from outside the machine, but bore out on the turns and was cased up in the stretch.
