Cleveland Meeting Opens May 21 and Runs Thirty One Days Many Improvements Planned and Under Way Grandstand Enlarged and New Facilities Added . CLEVELAND, Ohio, March 22.-Five crack three-year-olds, which have been racing in New Orleans this season, have been nominated for the eighth renewal of the Ohio State Derby, 0,000 added, to be run Saturday, June 4 at Bainbridge Park over one mile and an eighth. Racing secretary Julius Reeder, who was in New Orleans in the interest of the coming thirty-one-day meeting at Bainbridge, beginning May 21, announced many more were in prospect, but those already nominated were Lucky Tom, Renaissance Hoops, Crystal Prince and Sazerac. , In arranging the condition book for the Bainbridge meeting, racing secretary Reeder exercised special care to provide races for three-year-olds in advance of the Derby giving them an opportunity to get into condition. On opening day, Saturday, May 21, the Derby Preliminary will be run over one mile. It is a condition race. The Derby m? It rim Bday, May 24, over one mile, with the Derby Trial Saturday, May 28. In . the interim there are other races in which three-year-olds compete with older horses as well as special claiming races for three-year-olds exclusively. The condition book for the first eight days of the meeting was distributed last week by secretary Reeder, and it has received the general approval of the horsemen both in Florida and New Orleans. The daily purse distribution amounts to ,200 with six stakes additional at ,500 added and the Ohio State Derby at 0,000 added. There is one two-year-old race daily, and also two claiming races for horses racing from ,500 to ,250. Two high class claiming races are also included. Horsemen appraising the book say it i3 evenly balanced and provides for horses of every caliber, with special inducements to Derby horses. Horsemen with one high class claiming horse and two or three of lesser caliber, will find provisions in the book suitable for the entire stable. BEAUTIFY INFIELD. Managing director Joseph Cattarinich of Bainbridge, has been in conference .with general manager Thomas McGinty during the last week going over the improvements of the beautiful mile course in the vicinity of Geauga Lake. More than ,000 has been expended in beautifying the infield with -shrubbery, flowers, gardens and miniature trees. The ground adjacent to the course has been dotted with trees and, sitting as it does, in a natural dell surrounded by picturesque hills, it truly can be called "Beautiful Bainbridge." "Reservations for stable room are coming in fast and we are anxious to have horsemen make their reservations early so our friends of the past will not be overlooked," said general manager McGinty. The 100 foot addition to the grandstand will take care of our ever-increasing patronage, and there will be other new facilities offered this season. General manager Tommy McGinty announced the officials for Bainbridge for the thirty-one day meeting, May 21-June 25, as follows: John T. Ireland, John King, Julius G. Reeder, stewards; Julius G. Reeder, racing secretary; Richard Leigh, Charles Campau, Clifford Abbo, placing judges; Charles Campau, clerk of scales; Richard Leigh, assistant secretary and handicapper; Charles Wilson,- paddock judge and timer; Earl Newman and Tom Day, patrol judges; G. R. Wingfield, starter; William Dangman, entry clerk, William Hudson, track superintendent. Applications for stable room should be mailed to Thomas McGinty, Bainbridge Park, Geauga Lake, Ohio.
