AQUEDUCTS THRILLING DAY Blenheim Adds Brookdale Handicap to List of Victories. Barometer Scores in Wheatley Steeplechase Handicap Great American Stakes Falls to Ship Ablaze. NEW YORK N. Y., June 25. In the greatest finish of the season, Blenheim carried the silks of the Wheatley Stable to victory in the old Brookdale Handicap at Aqueduct this afternoon, adding that prize to his Brooklyn Handicap of the previous Saturday and ,700 to his earnings. Closely lapped on the son of Blanford crossing the line was the Sagamore Stables War, Joseph E. Wideners Pari-Mutuel and the Audley Farm Stables Rocky News while Morton L. Schwartzs Barcelona Pete and Walter M. Jeffords Aegis followed in exceedingly close order. This was the big feature of a holiday program that was offered by the Queens County Jockey Club, in which the Great American went to William Ziegler Jr.s Puchero and Edward R. Bradleys Barometer was winner of the Wheatley Steeplechase Handicap. In the Brookdale, Blenheim was" highly tried and proved true. War, racing in improved form, went right along with him and the pace was fast when the first quarter was run in :24, the half in :47 and the six furlongs in 1:12. At that sprinting pace there was less than a Kead separating the pair and they were a couple of lengths before Barcelona Pete, which in turn was showing the way to Aegis. Rocky Nevs followed the Jeffords colt and Pari-Mutuel was in the rear. Mills kept right after War and it was expected that the Sagamore colt would give way under the strain, but he developed a new form and hung- to his task with a bull dog gameness. It was inevitable that such a pace would take its toll and as the final furlong was reached there was a general closing up on the pacemakers. Barcelona Pete was racing along next to the inner rail and that was the course chosen by Coucci, on Pari-Mutuel, which was gaining rapidly. Rocky News was also gaining fast. Thus it was that four of the six crossed the line so close together that the actual finish was in doubt until the result was displayed. Continued on twenty-first page. AQUEDUCTS THRILLING DAY f Continued from first page. The excellent entertainment that was offered resulted in one of the best crowds of the meeting. The fields were small in each but the opening race, but it was great sport that came with each race and it was fitting that the greatest thrill should come from the Brookdale Handicap. The one big field of the day was in the opening dash at six and a half furlongs for cheap ones and seventeen paraded to the post. This went to Trajectory, from the Sage Stable, with William M. Carters Day Dreamer racing to second place, and Epi-dawn, from the Quincy Stable, saved third from Jubilation. ,E. R. Bradleys Barometer was easily best in the Wheatley Steeplechase Handicap, and while his margin of victory was less than a length, he was holding Joseph E. Widen-ers Indigo perfectly safe and the pair of them were six lengths before Gwladys Whitneys Hat Broom. The only other starter was Jack Anthony, from the Greentree Stable, and he made a bad landing two fences from the finish and McGovern was unseated. There was a late scratch in this race when Mrs. Robert V. McKims Cahirciveen was discovered to have a filled ankle after the jockeys had been posted. He was withdrawn after the wagering had progressed for some time and a new book was made.
