WINS EIGHTH STRAIGHT Best Fairmount Park Juveniles Fail to Stop Friend Charley. Carries 124 Pounds to Victory in Golf Club Handicap Paul T. Defeats Dr. Jillson. COLLINSVILLE, 111., Sept. 24. Friend Charley today continued his remarkable winning streak, which has now carried him through eight successive victories. He had 124 pounds up and was meeting the keenest of his rivals among the Fairmount Park juveniles, the majority of which he had beaten before while carrying less weight. Ridden by Gooler and following the pace of Odd Star and Anna Adelia, Friend Charley went to the front in the stretch and won by a half length. Sun Gros, Reno up, was second, and Odd Star, Clemons riding, finished third. The race was the Fairmount Golf Club Handicap, at three-quarters of a mile, and it created more interest than any other event so far staged during this meeting. Autumn weather, carrying a crispness that penetrated the rays of the sun, greeted the second Saturday of autumn racing at the Fairmount Park course of the Fairmount Jockey Club here this afternoon. Despite the sharp breeze, except for which the weather would have been all to be desired for the afternoon entertainment, there was present a crowd estimated at 15,000, and larger than that of opening day. As on the previous Saturday, there vere numerous leading lights of the business, social and sporting world present, and the beautiful club house was a mecca for the elite of this vicinity. There was a large luncheon reservation list and the society of St. Louis, East St. Louis, Collinsville and other adjoining cities took advantage of the half-holiday to witness the sport. SPIRITED RACING. The most attractive eight-race program of the meeting, featured by a two-year-old handicap, was offered and, although seven of the eight races carried the claiming clause, those from this rank offered spirited and formful racing. Mrs. S. Orrs La Compere registered her second consecutive success when she was returned an easy winner of the first event that engaged a field of ten three-year-old fillies at six furlongs. Hasty Polly raced to the place, with Chiefs Camille, making her first start in these parts, third. Tommy Sauter had the winner off in the first flight, and she drew away from Hasty Polly in the opening quarter to establish a long lead before reaching the stretch. Continuing in hand, the daughter of Runantell came to the finish with a three-length margin, with Hasty Polly leading Chiefs Camille by a couple of lengths. Dorothy Hicks, favorite, raced along closest to the leaders until reaching the stretch," but dropped back in the final quarter to be badly beaten at the end. POPULAR VICTORY. The locally-owned Jim Ormont carried the colors of M. J. Whalen to a popular victory when he got up in time to be an easy winner of the second event, which engaged a limit field of platers at three-quarters. After leading until well into the stretch, Ada Epi-nard raced to the place, with Pangloss third. The winner, ridden by Tracy Reno, was never far back of the pace of Ada Epinard, which was closely attended by Toltec, and when Reno drove him to the lead in the final sixteenth he came to the finish with a two lengths margin. Ada Epinard held on in fine style to have nearly a two lengths margin over Pangloss, which came from last place to earn the minor award. The third event was productive of a close finish and a mild surprise when OConnell and Rectors Paul T. held on in game fashion to head the heavily backed Dr. Jillson at the termination of the three-quarters. Boston Common was third, with the pacemaking Yvette V. fourth in the field of nine juveniles. Yvette V., taking command at the start, drew away from Easter Parade and Paul T. in the opening quarter, but the veteran W. Boganowski sent the victor to the front shortly after leaving the eighth post and, holding on in game fashion, withstood the determined challenge of Dr. Jillson when he charged in the final forty yards. The latter, after going wide turning into the stretch, got up in time to head Boston Common, which finished well after she found racing room in the stretch.
