Won ridden out; second and third driving. ROYAL DOULTON, saved for the first turn of the field, jumped boldly and held REDBRIDGE safe at the end. The latter, restrained for a turn and a half of the field, challenged gamely after taking the last fence, but was not good enough. ALPHEUS showed good speed and, jumping well, tired in the last half mile. HAMPTONIAN was unable to reach the leaders. FAIR MARION jumped well, but lacked speed to keep up in the closing drive. CAPTAIN SOMERS showed good speed for the first turn of the field. Kellys stirrup leather broke and he was unable to do his mount justice. The latter, close up and shuffled back near the half-mile post, went to the outside and Finished gamely. HAPPY HOPES was forced to take up at the eighth post, but closed gamely when clear. JUNIAM closed a big gap. CANNY AGE began slowly and tired after rushing into contention. BALD CREST quit badly in the stretch. PENSWEEP moved up resolutely on the outside on the far turn and, dropping back badly, pulled up lame.
