ENGLISH-BRED JUMP WINNER Escapade Triumphs in Harbor Hill Steeplechase in Record Time. Blenheim Outruns Apprentice and Pintail in Aqueduct Handicap Small Crowd Despite Good Weather. NEW YORK, N. T., Sept. 24. Escapade, the T. Hitchcock English three-year-old son of All Alone and Laughing Eyes, was an impressive winner of the Harbor Hills Steeplechase, for three-year-olds, at Aqueduct today. He also established a new record for the two miles course when he raced in 3:49. Then the companion feature of the afternoon, the Aqueduct Handicap, which was run as the last race, brought victory- to Blenheim, from the Wheatley Stable, arid added another ,700 to his score. James Butlers Apprentice was a tired second, and C. V. Whitneys Pintail, the only other starter, was left at the post. While conditions were ideal for the running of the program and there was plenty of interest in the seven races, the crowd was disappointingly small, though it was not lacking in enthusiasm. When Escapade carried the Thomas Hitchcock silks to victory in the running of the Harbor Hill Steeplechase he earned ,700. It was the second start and the second victory for the English son of All Alone and Laughing Eyes, and he was admirably ridden by "Pete" Bostwick, the talented amateur. Well back of the gelding was W. Plun-ket Stewarts Afloat, and then came Mrs. T. W. Durants Cheela, leading King Johren, from the Catawba Farm Stable, and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Foray was the only other to finish. Beret, the filly that bore the silks of the Greentree Stable, went down at the fourth jump, and Daiquiri, which raced for Mrs. K. E. Hitt, was pulled up when hopelessly beaten. It was a swiftly-run race, when Escapade raced in 3:49, which cut the two-mile course record from 3:51, established by Ivory II. two years ago. Sande had Apprentice under restraint as he raced along back of Blenheim and he timed his run well when he called on the son of Vulcain turning into the stretch. For a few strides Apprentice gained on Blenheim, but Malley had something left with the son of Blandford and at the end he was well clear of the Butler colt. Pintail was galloped around the course for third money. A fighting finish featured the five furlongs for plater juveniles, first on the card, when Morton L. Schwartz Clarify, under a vigorous drive by Pete Walls, scored over Mrs. W. T. Andersons Character. It really was a two-horse race, for the others were far back, with Sidney Rheinsteins Brown Wren readily saving third from Black Minnie.
