=8 ILLINOIS DERBY PROSPECTS! » Outlook Bright for Dozen Starters in Auroras Closing Day Feature. • Charley O., Fingal, Sarada, Col. Hatfield, At Top and Other Topnotchers Among the Expected Contestants in Race. The probable field for the ,000 added Illinois Derby, to be run at Aurora May 20, follows: Horse. Owner. Charley O R. M. AURORA, 111., May 11.— With the first running of the ,000 added Illinois Derby at Aurora on the closing day of the meeting — May 20 — less than ten days away, the field for the mile and a furlong fixture is I beginning to take definite form. The nominations do not close until Monday, May 15, but already thirteen thoroughbreds — some of them three-year-olds of the first rank — have been officially nominated or have been definitely promised. A starting field of at least a dozen seems certain. Heading the list of those whose nomination fee has already been paid is R. M. Eastman estates Charley O., the colt that won the Florida Derby at Hialeah and finished third in the Kentucky Derby. Another named is Fingal, one of E. R. Bradleys Kentucky Derby reliances that was not declared out until the day of the race. The definite promise of Morrie Cohens Louisiana Derby winner, Col. Hatfield, and the Shandon Farm Stables good filly At Top, the Jefferson Derby victress, fills the list of the best of the I winter three-year-olds. j One of the most interesting nominations is that of the Catawba Farm Stables Continued on ticenty-third page. ILLINOIS DERBY PROSPECTS Continued from first page. Sarada. The nomination blank is expected by mail Friday, the colts entry having been promised yesterday to Aurora representatives at Louisville. Sarada was heavily played in the Kentucky Derby winter books, and on the day of the race might even have pressed the well-backed Ladysman for the position of mutuel favorite. Sarada developed a cough, however, and did not start. Many horsemen believe that the Catawba colt would have been the Derby winner, and his test against such a proven Derby route runner as Charley O. will likely prove the highlight of the Illinois Derby. Another Kentucky Derby starter named for the Aurora stake is L. M. Seversons Spicson. An accomplished mud runner, Spicson was sixth in the Churchill Downs classic, and if the Aurora racing strip remains heavy the fact that Spicson is locally owned is likely to win him considerable support from the bettors. Spicson and six other of the Severson horses have already shipped for Aurora from Churchill Downs and their arrival is expected hourly. Interpreter, a promising colt that races in the silks of Mrs. A. M. Creech, is already at Aurora and waiting for the track to dry to put an edge on his condition. Friend Charley, the Jewell Bros. hope, is also on hand, and was reported today entirely recovered from the slight attack of fever from which he had been suffering. Because many of the large eastern stables will be shipping here late in May for the Washington Park meeting, the Aurora track has iepresentatives in Maryland and New York seeking eastern nominations for the Illinois Derby. Several Preakness starters, for instance, are expected to ship to Washington Park and van their charges here for the stake.
