HEAD PLAY PIMUCO LEADER Heads List of Money Winning Horses With 6,850. Johnny Gilbert Leads Jockeys With Fourteen Winning Mounts Track Distributes Total of 37,670. Pimlicos spring, meeting is always one of the most interesting of the year to race fans, throughout the country, and this year was no exception. In fact more interest than usual attached to the sport at the Balimore Hill Top track because of the expected duel between Head Play and his conqueror in the Kentucky Derby, Brokers Tip. The Preakness Stakes was to be the deciding race between them, but as it turned out, Head Play won easily, while Brokers Tip, suffering from an injury and disliking the track, finished last. During the fifteen days of sport at Pimlico, the Maryland Jockey Club distributed 37,670 among the winning owners, a daily average of ,178. The meeting began May 1 and ended May 17, during which time 120 races were run. Mrs. Silas B. Mason headed the winning owners list. It was the second victory of her short career as an owner when Head Play scored in the Preakness and won 6,-850, which amount gave the New York turf-woman money winning honors. Mrs. J. H. Whitneys horses won ,250 and second place. Head Play, of course, was the leading money winning horse. Stepenfetchit, the surprise winner of the Dixie Handicap, was second with ,100. Johnny Gilbert scored with fourteen of his mounts and headed the list of jockeys who rode during the meeting. H. Dab?on, virtually unknown, was second with twelve, and R. Jones third with ten.
