STEP OFF went to the front near" the half-mile post and fought it out stubbornly, outlasting DIE CAST. The latter showed in front in the stretch, but could not withstand the winner. LOGWOOD worked his way up on the outside and held on gamely. FRIGID FROSTY, shuffled back at the start and in close quarters repeatedly, closed gamely. COUNT BRUNO was not a factor. STYLISH MACK moved up steadily after going the first quarter mile, came around FLYING HEELS II. nearing the stretch and, hard urged, just lasted to hold HAZEL HOPPS. The latter improved her position gradually and, closing with a rush on the outside, would probably have been the winner in another stride. FLYING HEELS II., a forward factor all the way, held on gamely while saving ground. ROSE SPOT finished with good courage through the stretch. OPTICAL had good early speed, but was unable to keep pace with the leaders in the closing drive. BALAI DOR had brief early speed. CELERITAS was a trailer all the way. CHIEFS TROUBADOUR, close up all the way, responded gamely in the stretch, but was not good enough. UNCLE DONALD took command when called upon, but tired.
