EXTINGUISH BLAZE AT BELMONT BELMONTNEW NEW YORK N Y May 11 Quick action by stable employes and the arrival of the Mineola and Belmont fire departments stopped what would have proved to be a disastrous fire at Belmont Park Wednesday night A watchman making his rounds at 10 oclock noticed a thin stream of smoke over the 100stall stable that occupies the top portion of the old straightaway He quickly summoned help and volunteers turned into fire fighters fightersThree Three stalls and a portion of the roof were destroyed Horsemen stabled in that vicinity took precautions and removed their charges from the scene Several horses owned by Mrs John Hertz were stabled in the barn but were removed and others owned by James Stewart were also sent to safety zones Hose lines were played on the fire and it was soon extinguished The property loss was slight
