NED 0 DISAPPOINTS AGAIN Fervid Takes Measure of Strong StrongPimlico Pimlico Favorite in Headline HeadlineEace Eace of the Day BALTIMORE Md May 11 After he had raced Accent off his feet and taken a lead of a length a furlong out Ned O looked a sure winner of the race called the Florence Reed Trophy that was the feature of this afternoons Pimlico card But the aged Campfire gelding which at three was a Kentucky Derby and an Arlington Classic pretender could not stick it out He began to shorten his stride a sixteenth of a mile out and Fervid Fabius and Chips swept past on the outside Fervid made it by the narrowest of margins in the last stride A step past the finish Fabius had his head in front frontThe The closeness of this finish brought wild cheering from a crowd of 7000 which was something of a gathering considering the weather Clouded skies threatened rain at any moment throughout the day The going was a little off the result of several hours of rain late yesterday afternoon and no sun and very little wind today todayAfter After the finish Florence Reed through Mayor Jackson of Baltimore presented a piece of plate to Mrs J M Black of Balti ¬ more County the owner of the winner Mrs Blacks husband trains Fervid She got an ovation as she descended the steps after ¬ ward Ned O fooled most of the bettors of the crowd rather badly He had run two good races earlier in the week and the track was supposed to be to his liking However Fervid which had beaten him in muddy go ¬ ing on the occasion of his first appearance of the meeting was generously backed at about 6 to 1 Chips and Accent had a few followers but Fabius and his running mate Marge were neglected Nobody seemed to think that Marge belonged belongedFabius Fabius was believed to be a better middle distance runner than a sprinter Marge showed some speed on the far turn A lot of folks liked Accent which trained in Mrs John Bosleys stable won at Havre de Grace
