KEESTER IN LIMELIGHT Apprentice Has Another Good Day at Exposition Park W A Mikels Enro Accounts for Montgomery Claiming Purse Gay Follies Wins by Head AURORA 111 May 18 Although there was not much class to Fridays program the sixteenth of the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs spring meeting the sport was formful In the first five events the winners gained their conquest by clear margins with the exception of the second which went to Gay Follies by a head headThe The fifth named the Montgomery Claim ¬ ing Purse was the best race of the day and occupied the feature position This brought together six of the useful type distance per ¬ formers over the one mile and onesixteenth route W A Mikels Enro was the winner when he gave an improved performance un ¬ der the riding of apprentice Paul Keester who stretched his winning string to three The victor under severe pressure in the final stages reached the end one length in front of the favorite Sambo Brown BrownThird Third fell to Northern Sir which came home in advance of Donie Oaten and Happy Lad which finished the course in the order named namedNorthern Northern Sir was sent to the front at the start and maintained a good advantage while Enro raced in second place and Donie showed the others the way The named trio raced in this order for threequarters when Donie dropped back and Sambo Brown came into third place As they reached midway in the stretch Keester sent his mount up with a rush but Northern Sir did not give way vhen challenged and offered stubborn con ¬ tention inside the final eighth where Enro finally made him submit then after giving way to the winner he relinquished his posi ¬ tion to Sambo Brown who offered a game challenge but was found wanting Oaten and Happy Lad both turned in disappoint ¬ ing performances when neither of them reached contention contentionLARGEST LARGEST WEEKDAY CROWD CROWDThe The delightful weather continued and the management played host to the largest week ¬ day crowd of the meeting meetingSprinters Sprinters of the better grade raced in the fourth which resulted as expected when Clarence E Davisons Whizz James oddson favorite made a show of his rivals in accom ¬ plishing his victory Two and onehalf lengths back of the victor came Miss Chilla to account for second money while Daunt ¬ less Miss was two lengths farther back and half a length in front of Jim Ormont to take the minor award awardAVhile AVhile the winner outclassed his opponents the poor ride of apprentice C Rollins on Jim Ormont assured it and the horse raced just as the betting indicated when he soared from three to one to nine at post time timeWhizz Whizz James rushed to the front at the start was closely followed by Miss Chilla for the first quarter but as they made the turn he easily shook her off and drew clear and sped along winning well in hand Miss Chilla withstood several challenges from Dauntless Miss and did give way briefly in the stretch but responded gamely to pres ¬ sure and came again in the final stages and easily disposed of the latter in the drive driveBLIND BLIND STAR EASILY EASILYBlind Blind Star unsexed son of Blind Play and Fairy Star was successful in his first assay when he made a show of his rivals in the first race when he raced the four and one half furlongs in 54 to win by the decisive margin of four lengths Lady Louella an outsider in the wagering gave an improved performance to finish second while third went to Tipover which came from behind to garner the third award awardNonwinners Nonwinners since November 1 1933 made the contest in the second a threequarters dash and engaged eleven of the inferior type This resulted in a win for P Hatch ¬ ers Gay Follies her first triumph since he acquired the daughter of Genie from Stuyve sant Peabody Polly E was second and Aliens accounted for the third part of the purse Continued on thirtysecond page KEESTER IN LIMELIGHT Continued from The turquoise blue and red colors of P Hatcher figured in another victory when Slip Knot earned her graduation by turning back eleven others that started in the third race another dash of five and onehalf fur ¬ longs Incidentally it completed the Daily Double The victress is another castoff from the Stuyvesant Peabody stable and from all indications P Hatcher is a good trainer when he can improve horses as greatly as he has Gay Follies and Slip Knot since he took them over Brother Ben was second and might have been more formidable with better racing luck but R Cheatham was forced to ease him up several times during the race when he bore in which ruined his chances of winning Third went to the tenyearold maiden Miami Sands which was making his first start
