DARK WINTERS GAME RACE Kilmer Colorfcearer Outstays Jovius and Blind Bowboy x Raccland Purse Heads Attractive Belmont Park Program Witnessed by Excep ¬ tionally Large Crowd NEW YORK N Y May 18 Willis Sharpe Kilmers Dark Winter the home ¬ bred son of Traumer and Sunwina ran a game race at Belmont Park today to be winner of the Raceland Purse the feature of a good program programLapped Lapped on him at the finish was William Woodwards Jovius and George H Bost wicks Blind Bowboy who after enjoying all the luck in the running was a distant third before the plater Mountain Elk The only other starter was Old Master which fin ¬ ished last The return of the delightful weather and an excellent program brought out a big crowd to the Nassau County course and the sport was worthy of the crowd crowdIn In the feature Blind Bowboy and Dark Winter were chiefly to blame for a long de ¬ lay at the post and after Blind Bowboy was taken to the outside the field got away with the Bostwick horse enjoying an advan ¬ tage of at least a couple of lengths Renick crossed to the rail with the Bostwick horse in the first furlongs and he was still well clear with the others strung out back of him himMountain Mountain Elk was in second place and Old Master third with Dark Winter showing the way to Jovius Walls had the Kilmer colt racing along next to the rail but it did not seem possible he would make up the ground to reach a contending position Then near the stretch turn both Blind Bow boy and Mountain Elk showed the first signs of tiring Mountain Elk was through a furlong from home and there Wells brought Dark Winter through a small opening to challenge Blind Bowboy The Bostwick horse was tiring as Dark Winter drew along ¬ side and it was no trick to pull him away but a new danger loomed when Jovius came with a rush on the outside Walls was awake to the danger and riding the son of Traumer out vigorously had him past the line winner by half a length Jovius had run over the tired Blind Bowboy to take second place by three lengths and Mountain Elk was another neck away awayThe The fifth was another four and a half furlongs dash over the Widener course for twoyearolds and it resulted in an easy vic ¬ tory for the Geneseo Stables Patriotic He proved one of the easiest winners of the day when he crossed the line half a dozen lengths before William Woodwards filly Vicaress and she in turn took second place from H Teller Archibalds Candy Prince by three lengths lengthsMrs Mrs E L Robertsons recent purchase Rego made good at his first asking when he was a driving winner of the final race of the day He was ridden by W D Wright and completed a double for that boy who had guided Sickle Pear to a victory in an earlier race G D Wideners Jack Low was second while third went to Top High that raced for Damon Runyon The win ¬ ner slipped through on the inside in the stretch and improving his position steadily at the finish was drawing away
