His Churchill Downs preparation race, in which he beat a field of prospective Derby candidates, stamps him as the logical choice for the Derby. BANISTER I Started seven times during 1935, finishing I J second once and was third on one occasion. ! His best effort was in the Belmont Nursery , ■ Handicap, in which he finished second, beaten 1 I a neck by Hollyrood after closing some ; 1 ground. In making his 1936 debut, he came from last place to finish fourth to Brevity in the Sophomores Purse at Churchill Downs. i BIEN JOLI Three wins, three seconds and two thirds are credited to the son of Blue Larkspur in fourteen starts last year. He won the East View Stakes, finished second to Red Rain in the Hopeful Stakes and finished 1 ! third in the Saratoga Special Sweepstakes. , I He finished second to Brevity in the Sopho- | mores Purse at Churchill last Saturday. This i was his only engagement in 1936. 1 j BOLD VENTURE ! His two-year-old record shows three wins and two seconds in eight starts. He ran un- ! j placed in the Arlington Futurity and was unable to finish better than ninth in the Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga. He beat Gran- ; ville in an overnight race at Saratoga and ! came right back to beat Grand Slam a few days later, also in an overnight purse race. i COLDSTREAM ! Won six of his thirteen races as a two-year-old, finished second on one occasion ] and was third once. His stake victories in- elude the Bashford Manor, Hyde Park and ■ 1 the Saratoga Special Sweepstakes, in which he ran a dead heat with Red Rain. He fin- j ; ished fourth in the Belmont Juvenile Stakes, I in which Maeriel beat him by a short half j length. In his only start this year he fin- | ished third to Corinto in the Clark Handicap. : DNIEPER He was "in the money" in seven of his thirteen starts last year. Won four races, I placed once and finished third twice. He won the Washington Park Juvenle Stakes. He has started eight times this year, win- ning two races at Hialeah Park, finished neond to Brevity in the Florida Derby and | was also second to Bright Plumage In the Derby Consolation at Tropical Park. He finished unplaced in the Derby Trial. FOREST PLAY He has been seen under colors once last i year and twice this year. He ran unplaced In his one start last year. He finished third I in his first out this spring and was returned i a winner in his other effort. He will run as ! a stablemate of Grand Slam. GOLD SEEKER She was unable to win as a two-year-old, j placing twice and finishing third twice in j eight starts. She was returned a winner in I three of her five starts this year, and was third on another occasion. Her victory in the Chesapeake Stakes was her only stake triumph. GRAND SLAM The Bomar Stables colorbearer was active as a two-year-old, being sent to the post fifteen times. He won five races and finished second four times. He is a superior j mud runner, as his victories in the Kentucky j Jockey Club, Arlington Futurity and Pimlico Nursery Stakes would indicate. His other j stake victory was in the Prairie State Stakes at Washington Park. Finished third to Gold j Seeker in the Chesapeake Stakes and also finished third in the Derby Trial. GRANVILLE He was "in the money" in five of his seven races last year. He won one race, was second once and finished third on three occasions. He ran unplaced in the Futurity i at Belmont, but showed a fine performance in finishing third to Brevity in the Champagne Stakes. Ned Reigh nosed him out for honors in the Babylon Handicap at Aqueduct. He won his first race this year from Ned Reigh and was second to Teufel in the Wood Memorial Stakes last Saturday. HE DID Started ten times last year. Won three races and was second twice. He has started seven times this year, winning three races, placed once and finished third once. He won the second running of the Santa Anita Derby. He ran unplaced in the Santa Anita Handicap, and finished fifth in the Sophomores Purse last Saturday, but came right back to win the Derby Trial from Sangreal by a nose. HOLL IMAGE He was started twenty-three times as a two-year-old. Won two races, was second once and finished third three times. He has started fourteen times this year, winning two races and was second four times and third on three occasions. He won the Arkansas Centennial Derby at Oaklawn. He was unplaced in the Derby Trial. INDIAN BROOM The son of Brooms was sent to the post fifteen times last year, winning four racs, second twice and third three times. His 1936 record shows four wins, two seconds and two thirds in nine starts. He set a new world record for one mile and an eighth in running the distance in 1:47%, to win the first running of the Marchbank Handicap at Tanforan, i MERRY PETE He was started twice last year, finishing unplaced in both races. His 1936 record i shows a second and a third in two trips to j the post. He ran second to Crystal Prince, beaten a nose for honors, in his last race at Jamaica. NED REIGH He earned 4,655 as a two-year-old. He won five races, placed second once and fin-Ished third four times, having been sent to i the post sixteen times. He was among the first three horses in six of his stake engage- j ments, winning the Walden Handicap, Babylon Handicap, Junior Champion Stakes and the Troy Claiming Stakes. He finished third in the Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicap and ths Pimlico Futurity. Started twice this j year, finishing second to Granville in one raes and unplaced to Teufel in the Wood I Memorial. SANGREAL Started fifteen times in 1935, winning three races, placing once, and was third twice. j He won his maiden race at Arlington Park j and then went to Saratoga, where he ac-counted for the Albany Handicap. Started six times this year, winning three overnight races at Arlington Downs. He ran unplaced in the Texas Derby, and finished third in the Sophomores Purse, and was beaten a nose by He Did in the Derby Trial. SEVENTH HEAVEN Started fourteen times last year, winning ! four races, placing twice and finishing I third once. He won the Lone Star Handi- I cap at Epsom Downs last winter. Started j nine times this year, winning the New Years ! I Handicap at Alamo and two overnight I events. He ran unplaced in the Texas Cen- tsnnisl Handicap at Arlington Downs. SILAS Started nine times, won one race, finished second twice and took down third money twice. He only won at Coney Island, that being a maiden affair. He has been under ; colors once this year, finishing unplaced to ; Brevity last Saturday. TEUFEL Started eleven times last year without winning, but placed on three occasions. He was beaten a nose by The Fighter in the Remsen Handicap after closing a big gap. He fin- ! ished ninth in the Futurity Stakes at Belmont. He started twice this year, winning , the Wood Memorial Stakes by a nose from j Granville and finished fourth in the Chesapeake Stakes at Havre. THE FIGHTER His two-year-old record includes six wins and one second in eleven races. He won the Grand Union Hotel Stakes and the Remsen Handicap. He finished second after setting all the pace in the Junior Champion Stakes at Aqueduct. He won five of his six races j this year. He was returned victorious in all j , of his stake engagements at Arlington , Downs. His triumphs include the Inaugural Handicap, Blue Bonnets Handicap, Frontier ] Exposition Handicap and the fourth running 1 of the Texas Derby. Valevictorian beat him a nose for honors in his only defeat of the I year, that race being his first start of 1936.
