FOUR EEVEN WINS AGAIN Third Straight and Fifth of Year for Calumet Filly Defeats Kentucky Oaks Eligibles in Filly Race at Louisville Derby Candi ¬ dates Idle LOUISVILLE Ky May 3 Turning back a band of threeyearold fillies several of them eligible for the Kentucky Oaks the Calumet Farms Four Eleven ridden by Irving Anderson scored a handy victory in the Lassies Purse one of the features on this afternoons program at Churchill Downs Heavily backed the daughter of Haste and Fire Play scoring her fifth vic ¬ tory of the year and her third in a row took command shortly after the start and con ¬ tinued in front to the end to score with two lengths to spare The race was decided over six furlongs and she ran the distance over a slow track in 113 113Alice Alice G from the Tranquillity Farm ac ¬ counted for second money while Mrs I Meripols Beth Macaw was third Mary Vito was next while those completing the field were Oddesa Girl Jadva and Pansys First Mary Vito Oddesa Girl and Jadva were the Oaks fillies in the race and though Mary Vito finished with fine speed the other two never oppositionFour offered very much opposition Four Eleven took command early and set her own pace under a snug hold closely attended by Alice G They raced in that order all the way but after reaching the stretch the Calumet filly drew away while bearing out slightly and went on to achieve victory by the margin of two lengths Beth Macaw never far back moved up in the final quarter to account for third money a length and onehalf behind the runnerup and a length before the fastclosing Mary Vito which trailed the field for a little more than a quarter quarterOddesa Oddesa Girl raced close up to the final furlong and then gave way while Jadva and Pansys First showed little Continued on thirtieth page FOUR ELEVEN WINS AGAIN Continued from first page Todays program was presented under pleasant enough weather conditions even though the track still was off and the sec ¬ ond days sport at the Downs was witnessed by a large crowd which included many early arrivals for the Derby No candidates for the 50000 prize were seen under colors but an interesting brand of sport was provided nevertheless Cloudy during much of the morning the sky cleared before race time and by the time the second number was called postward overhead conditions were ideal idealMoody Moody Jolley who saddled Coronium for a winning effort on opening day sent an ¬ other winner postward in Jane Vito owned by Orgill Podesta which accounted for the opening event The Vito filly which won two of three starts at Oaklawn Park before being shipped here turned back eight other tvoyearold fillies over four and a half fur longs and she scored with a length and a half to spare The wellbacked Aces Wild was away in front but on the turn was overtaken by the winner and though she finished courageously she was no match for Jane Vito Aces Wild was sec ¬ ond with Eastorian third a length and a half farther back and Oddesa Lady fourth Jack Westrope was astride the winner which paid 1320 for 2 in the mutuels mutuelsPETER PETER PUMPKIN SCORES SCORESPeter Peter Pumpkin accounted for the second event Pierre Andre took second honors with Marie Jean third Pierre Andre showed the way here until Peter Pumpkin sup ¬ planted him in the van and held on well after being overtaken but barely was able to withstand the closing bid of Marie Jean accounting for csecond money nosfc
