COUNT ARTHUR REGAINS FORM Photograph Necessary to Determine Winner of Rialto Handicap Chief Race at Jamaica Marred by Bumping BumpingMatch Match in Stretch Moon Side SideFinishes Finishes Second JAMAICA N Y May 3 Mrs John Hertz Count Arthur came back to something like his real form at Jamaica today when he was winner of the Rialto Handicap the best offering on the Metropolitan Jockey Club program His winning margin was a narrow one and it took a photograph to decide that he had led Cleaveland Putnams Moon Side past the line and Buckley M Byers Thorson was third thirdThe The race was marked by much interfer ¬ ence in the stretch the most serious being when Thorson bumped Corundum and knocked him off stride when he had a win ¬ ning chance while he in turn carried Moon Side out badly As a result of the bumping Corundum was last of the five that raced his stablemate Gean Canach finishing fourth fourthWith With delightful weather for the new week of sport a big crowd was out The track was in its best condition and many of the finishes were excitingly close closeIn In the Rialto Handicap the five left in the same stride and Count Arthur was the one to take the burden of pacemaking Thorson went after him and then followed Corundum and Moon Side closely lapped with Gean Canach last of the five fiveCOUNT COUNT ARTHUR ON INSIDE INSIDEThis This was the order as the short stretch was reached and there Count Arthur had the inside berth with Thorson next and then Corundum The Brookmeade colt was charging along steadily and was in a win ¬ ning position when Thorson swerved out sharply to knock him off stride and this caused him to carry Moon Side wide The son of Broadside recovered from his inter ¬ ference and finished with great courage but this stretch interference probably cost him the race when Count Arthur hung on gamely Thorson was a length back of the battling pair and as has been told the bumping per ¬ mitted Gean Canach to head his unfortunate stablemate stablemateThere There was a call for a photograph in the opening six furlongs dash when Philip Biebers Beautiful and A E Webbers Com ¬ pany crossed the line lapped and the camera revealed that order of finish A length and a half back of the pair was Mrs Ethel D Jacobs Grand Jester favorite of the field and Gold Cross was a distant fourth fourthLongden Longden had been rating Beautiful along back of the pace through the early racing and when Company was holding Grand Jester safe as that plater tired badly he drove his mount up with the winning rush on the outside outsideDOWN DOWN EAST AGAIN AGAINMrs Mrs Parker Comings Down East came back with another winning effort in the second for plater juveniles of the better class In his previous effort the son of Mirafel had run out badly in the stretch and still was winner while in this effort he saved ground all the way to win with ridic ¬ ulous ease in the fast time of 59 59Le Le Blanc had a nice hold on Down East as he turned safely into the stretch without showing any signs of bearing out and his mount was still in hand as he crossed the line winner by seven lengths
