MAY CHANGE STARTING STARTINGPOSITION POSITION OF THE DERBY LOUISVILLE Ky May 3 With large field in prospect Col M J Winn iiead b Churcfiill Downs may approve a slight change in the position of the stall gatetd be used for starting the field in the Ken ¬ tucky Derby Saturday It has been suggest ¬ ed that if the gate was placed nearer h quarter post the start would be taken al most off of the stretch turn However this would give the field a shorter run befora passing the quarter post where the mile and a quarter the horses must negotiate actually begins beginsThis This smaller run before reaching thes point where timing starts would make it more difficult for a horse to lower the records of 201 held by Twenty Grand On Thurs ¬ day Col Winn will inspect the area and if in his opinion such a change would reduce chances for interference at the start or im ¬ mediately thereafter the position of the gate may be closer to toe post than heretpfpra
