AURORA 111 May 3 Conclusive proof of the mudrunning ability of Mrs C C Win ¬ ters fouryearold chestnut filly Kabo was demonstrated in the running of the Mont ¬ gomery Claiming Purse sixth and headline attraction on this afternoons program at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs track when the fleet daughter of Epinard Wonderful One easily captured the five and onehalf fur ¬ longs dash Terpsichore flying the colors of C W Pershall finished second five lengths in the wake of the winner while Mrs R O Burns Miss Webb garnered the third por ¬ tion of the purse purseIt It was quite apparent soon after the start that Kabo would prove a difficult pace ¬ maker to overtake as the chestnut filly left the starting gate like a flash and jockey L Guymon realizing the advantage of get ¬ ting to the rail set out for this point immediately immediatelyTerpsichore Terpsichore and Miss Webb followed the pacemaker up the back stretch with jockey M Morlan flailing the flanks of his mount in an effort to give the leader a battle but the effort was in vain for Kabo was capable of outrunning her rivals while under light restraint Approaching the stretch Terpsi ¬ chore reduced Kabos margin to a length and a half overcrowded fields were the order in all distances and some thrills were provided for the racing fans who attended The initial juvenile race of the Illinois racing season was the open irig contest a dash of four and a half fur longs commanding the interest of the spec tators IColorbearers ofChappel Bros Rockford 111 breeders gathered in first and third honors in the opening dash when In Tran sit and Genesee landed first and third re spectively with the favored Burr Hickman sandwiched between them in second posi ¬ tion Breaking swiftly in the field of six sixwhich which were sent away without any delay at the gate the grey son of Swinfired Peggy Amour assumed a comfortable lead quickly and was never in danger of being over hauled though Burr Hickman was gaining slowly in the final stages The Chappel en try was entirely overlooked in the wagering paying 840 for 2 straight bets Stanley Stafford saddled the winner of the second event in R E Spicers Love Lost Lostwhich which triumphed over Minnie Greenock and Jack Murphy in easy fashion The fiveyear old chestnut mare was on the front end throughout and reached the finish mark markfour four lengths in advance of her closest pur suer Ridden by Bobby Haber the daughter of Bud Lerner displayed fine speed and im mediately guided to the inside rail which was the best part of the strip opened up a lead of two lengths in the first quarter The advantage was increased to four lengths at atthe the stretch turn where she was given a breathing spell and pulled clear in the last furlong CHAPPEL BROS COLORS The black and gold silks of Chappel Bros which figured so prominently in the result of the opening race repeated in the third filly graduated from the maiden ranks by romping home ahead of seven others of the same ilk and rewarded those who backed her with 3660 for 2 wagers Sweeping Dame followed the winner across the finish line six lengths behind with Kindest Kind taking third money Gold Spun performed much in the same manner as her proceeding stable companion in registering the triumph Favorite followers experienced their initial success of the day with the decision of the t fourth race when Dr Jillson racing for Mrs C E Eames showed the way from start to finish of the five and a half fur 3 longs affair to defeat Dark Roamer by two lengths while third money went to Tad The 115 pounds impost the gray gelding shoul j dered did not appear to dull his speed and he opened up a lead of three lengths before the field had traveled very far with All j Night nearest to him However after reach ing the stretch Dark Roamer moved up in a threatening manner but was unequal to the task of overtaking the son of Kiev which 1 paid 540 J Apprentice R L Veddef didnt lose any time in breaking into the win column scor i ing on his second mount when he guided i Mrs R O Burns High Man to a hard = earned victory in the lone distance race of the day High Man was a neck in front of i Playdema while Chief Evergreen was a head farther back in third place Beginning j with the leaders from his inside position the A i j A brown gelding got to the front before the first turn was reached and remained in that position for the remainder of the gruelling journey but was extended to the limit to withstand the bid of his challengers
