SAM WORTHY WINS EASILY Consistent Medway Stable Racer Scores at WoodbinevParki Sweepden Slim Margin Behind in Victoria VictoriaDay Day HandicaprFayorities Have Off OffDay Day Track Fast TORONTO Ont May 24 Carrying 108 pounds and showing the same speed that brought eight victories last season Sam Worthy sixyearold son of Worthmore and Samoa carrying the silks of the Medway Stable owned byJ E Smallman of London Ont was winner of the best offering at Woodbine Park today when he defeated nine other shifty sprinters in the Victoria Day Handicap which featured the second pro ¬ gram of the Ontario Jockey Club His score coming in a thrilling finish took place by a scant margin over Sweepden of the HC Hatch stable while T S Cochenours Worthy Duke led home Parkwood Stables Epicurus and the six others of which the disappoint ¬ ing favorite Spring Moon was sixth after she led the field of older sprinters for the better part of the journey journeyThe The Victoria Day Handicap was listed fifth on the holiday card made up of eight races and after a delay of six and onehalf minutes at the gate due to the fractiousness of Stingy the ten starters left in good align ¬ ment with Spring Moon flattering her sup ¬ porters by moving into a clear lead almost immediately Worthy Duke giving chase to the fleet daughter of Frisius was just a length before Sam Worthy as he led the pursuit then came Queensway and Sweep ¬ den closed lapped to head the others othersSETS SETS RAPD3 PACE PACESpring Spring Moon was setting a rapid pace as she held the van position and on the turn showed the way by three lengths but at the furlong post her margin was cut down con ¬ siderably when Worthy Duke and Sweepden and the eventual winner made their charges Jockey Aimers was hard at work on the choice in an effort to keep her going but her principal opponents were fighting along briskly and it was right at the end that Sam Worthy succeeded in running down the oppo sition to cross the line with a head as his final margin marginIn In the battle for the place Sweepden was one length before Worthy Duke while Epi ¬ curus coming from seventh place was just a head in advance of Royal Vintage and the tiring Spring Moon was next in line The time for the distance over the fast track was 113 113Another Another large gathering was out for the Victoria Day program despite a chill in the air and obscuring clouds Good entertain ¬ ment was the order of the day although choices were in the minority Showers that fell intermittently on Sunday had no effect on the footing footingEASY EASY FOR SOCK DOLOGER DOLOGERThe The Cosgrave Stable furnished the winner of the opening event a test of six furlongs for sprinters and it marked their first score of the new season when Sock Dologer turned back the Medway Stables Dixie Princess Hannah Anne and nine others in the field of limit size It was an easy success for the son of Mirafel when he came from behind to dash across the line three lengths before the Medway starter which captured the place by a nose while Hannah Anne was first before Calico Miss MissAnother Another limit field met for honors in the second race which was a split of the open ¬ ing dash and it brought a mild surprise when Jake Blieden in the silks of the Erin dale Stable made a show of his rivals to score in easy style Gene D raced into second place and third went to The Miner when he led home Nell Kuhlman and the others which included the disappointing favorite El Bandido BandidoBRYANSTON BRYANSTON DOMINATES Moving into a long lead directly after the start of the Nova Scotia hurdle race which was third on the program and the daily event through the field Bryanston from the T H Smith barn made a show of his rivals in the mile and fiveeighths journey when he led all the way to triumph by eight lengths and at liberal odds It was the first start for Bryanston in hurdle competition and he showed a fancy for the new phase of sport when he led by a wide margin through ¬ out to lead the Foxbar Stables Our Trouble to the finish while Mrs N Rays Vance captured third thirdThe The Rutland Plate fourth on the program and for twoyearolds attracted a field of six and the Parkwood Stable supplied the winner in Pattertoe a daughter of Pompey and Tripping Toe when she smothered her opponents for speed to score in easy fashion Installed the choice Pattertoe came to the close four lengths before Jacquella from the G M Hendrie stable with Sink or Swim getting a nose verdict for third over Oncave which led the two others
