BIG HURRY VICTRESS Carries the Colors of E R Bradley Successfully in Rich Selima Stakes Earns 25890 Defeating Inscoelda Inscoeldaand and Dinner Date Jacola Scores Scoresin in the Maryland Handicap LAUREL Md Oct 22 Under a power ¬ ful ride by jockey F A Smith Big Hurry racing for Edward Rllcy Bradley of Ken ¬ tucky earned the most valuable race for her breeder and owner this year when she de ¬ feated fifteen of the best twoyearold fillies in training to account for the thirteenth running of the rich Selima Stakes 10000 added fixture that attracted a huge crowd and which served as the main attraction of the banner program of racing at Laurel Park today The score that took place in a thrilling drive was worth exactly 25890 to the Bradley coffers and it marked the most important victory for the young daughter of Black Toney La Trolenne in nine starts this year when she made the accounting by threequarters of a length to defeat Woolford Farms Inscoelda after she cov ¬ ered the one mile distance in 141 flat Third prize in the rich offering was captured by Dinner Date winner of the Matron Stakes at Belmont Park which raced for the Milky Way Farm and Wheatley Stables Matterhorn which raced coupled with Wise Lady of the Belalr Stud was fourth to lead home A G Vanderbllts Equivalent and the ten other classy fillies that made up the latest edition of the valu ¬ able Maryland prize prizeSELUIAS SELUIAS BIG FIELD FIELDThe The big field in the Selima was one of the best ever to contest the event and they gave starter James F Milton much trouble at the starting point that was directly in front of the packed stands with Miss Brief the prin ¬ cipal actor banished to the outside to effect the getaway The beginning was a good one and fortunately there was little bumping among the starters going to the first turn although they were spread out badly In the short sprint to the sharp turn Dinner Dato was the one to possess the most speed and she led the way barely before Paper Plate and Batalet which were lapped In advance of Outdone and La Traviata In the run down the far side the Milky Way filly established a quick pace and she went into the halfmile ground one length to the good with the favo ¬ rite Paper Plate right at her heels Leav ¬ ing the far side Dinner Date lost some of her margin and it was at the final turn that Big Hurry racing back in seventh place moved up tenaciously to battle for the lead She was on the outside as she curved around the turn to be lapped with Dinner Date en ¬ tering the front lane PAPER PLATE TIRES TIRESPaper Paper Plate began to wilt at this juncture and it was here that Inscoelda moving up from last position secured racing room on the inside to crowd toward the leaders In the last furlong with the three principals lapped and out in the middle of the track bitter argument was waged with the su ¬ periority of Big Hurry obtaining in the last sixteenth Inscoelda was a length and one half before Dinner Date and another length back came Matterhorn to be a nefik In ad yance of Equivalent EquivalentWeather Weather conditions were ideal and with the promise of brilliant renewals of the Selima and Maryland Handicaps the crowd was one of the largest of the present meet ¬ ing The track was still on the off side from the late rains of Friday and the surface re jnained in a slow condition 4 ANOTHER FOR JACOLA JACOLAEdward Edward Friendlys swift filly Jacola added another important fall prize to her splendid record when she duplicated her Laurel Stakes victory that took place last Saturday to defeat seven other threeyearolds in the 7500 added Maryland Handicap a gallop of one mile and onequarter in which she earned 6450 to increase her money win ¬ nings to 16925 This was the supporting attraction of the afternoon and her success was registered by the same margin that she enjoyed when she took the measure of Charles S Howards Seabiscuit in the Laurel Stakes when she finished the gruelling journey two and one half lengths before Hypocrite of the Ral Parr stable The third share of the spoils went to W L Branns Aethelwold and he was another two lengths away as he led home in order Jolly Tar Nedayr Handcuff and the Mrs E Dencmark pair of Upstream and Blind Eagle EagleRuling Ruling a topheavy favorite Solvit from the D Christmas stable became a double winner at the meeting and started the public off on the right foot when he defeated eight other juveniles in the first race This was a sprint of six furlongs and the score came in a drive when he defeated War Moon from the Ral Parr Stable by threequarters of a length as Chatabit landed third
