MAJ BEARD ARLINGTON HEAD Agrees to Supervise Sport at Chicago Track and Serve Without Remu ¬ neration Carruthers Stays LEXINGTON Ky Oct 22 John Hertz chairman of the executive committee of the Arlington Park Jockey Club who Is here to attend the finale of the Kceneland meeting announced today that Maj Louie A Beard had accepted his request to take general charge of racing at the Chicago course next season seasonThe The Chicago sportsman further stated that Major Beard would assist the directorate in increasing the innovations for horsemen and improving the quality of racing to the end that Arlington Park will present to the pub ¬ lic a program of sport second to none and that the meeting will assume its just posi ¬ tion among the best in the national racing picture pictureMajor Major Beard who will serve without re ¬ muneration consented to devote every bit of his available time to this purpose and he also will act as an Arlington steward as he has in the past Beard who is in charge of the Whitney breeding farms near here long has been recognized as an ardent spokesman for horsemen and it is anticipated that as a result of his appointment at Arlington Park he will enforce many of his progressive ideas for the betterment of racing racingArlington Arlington Park is operated by a group of nationally famous sportsmen on a nonprofit basis all funds over operating expenses go ¬ ing back into purses and plant improve ¬ ments and the track has long been regarded in the same category as Belmont Park Sara ¬ toga Hialeah Park and Santa Anita in im ¬ portance in racing racingRoy Roy Carruthers who has been general manager of Arlington Park since it was taken over by its present sponsors in 1929 will con ¬ tinue to be in charge of the finances of the track
