LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 5.— The big seven of the sixty-fifth Kentucky Derby field, namely, Johnstown, El Chico, Challedon, Technician, Heather Broom, T. M. Dorsett and Xalapa Clown have done right well by their owners since entering competition. The goodly sum of 84,495 was earned by these stars with William Ziegler Jr.s, El Chico enjoying leadership with earnings of 4,300. His seven straight victories last year and a second this season helped amass this sum. Sweeping through three Futurities last season and chalking up another victory for W. L. Brann, his owner, Challedon is second with 9,200 to his credit; ,500 of this was garnered when he finished third in the Chesapeake Stakes. Third on the list is William Woodwards Johnstown, winner of 6,945 in his two seasons of racing. He earned 1,420 last season and the Paumonok Handicap, Wood Memorial and an overnight purse added 5,525 to his credit this spring. WINS FLAMINGO STAKES. Had it not been for his Flamingo Stakes triumph Technician would not enjoy fourth place as the Woolford Farm three-year-old had only ,085 to his credit entering the current year. Tw6 victories and other monies in addition to the Hialeah feature made a total of 3,750 for this year and 5,335 since he entered competition. T. M. Dorsett carried off Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes honors, three other victories and enough seconds, thirds, and fourths last year to reap 5,080 for Joe W. Brown and this year he has added ,925 more to it for a grand total of 0,005. Second money in the Santa Anita Derby and a victory in the Ardsley Handicap at Empire City last fall provided the major share of the 9,750 earned by Xalapa Clown for Mrs. Bessie Franzheim. Given only slight consideration until he triumphed in the Blue Grass Stakes last week for his first important victory, John Hay Whitneys Heather Broom has earned ,420 in his two years of campaigning. He won an overnight purse prior to capturing the Keeneland fixture this spring and as a juvenile he garnered ,130. Victory in the Derby for El Chico, Challedon or Johnstown will place the lucky one in the group of winners of 00,000 or more, while putting Technician, T. M. D*orsett and Xalapa Clown in a commanding position to attain that coveted classification.
