LITTLE DAMAGE TO RANGER WASHINGTON D C July 13 The Navj department today officially announced that the aircraft carrier Ranger had suffered bu little damage in a fire which started yester ¬ day while the vessel was undergoing routine overhauling at the Norfolk Navy Yard Portsmouth Va The extent of the damage according to a report to the department from Rear Admiral M H Simons command ¬ ant of the yard was a large area of scorched paint on the hulls exterior A small launch lying alongside the Ranger also was scorched The fire which reports said was caused by spilled gasoline being accidentally Ignited was quickly brought under control
