EMPIRE CITY ATTENDANCE OP Receipts Also Show a Substantial SubstantialGain Gain Over Previous Season Benefited by Good Weather NEW YORK N Y July 13 The opening week of thoroughbred racing at Empire City showed substantial gains in attendance re ¬ ceipts and taxes as compared to the corre1 spending meeting of a year ago according to a report submitted today to the New York State Racing Commission Empire Citys meeting began on July 3 3The The attendance for the week from July 3 to July 8 reached a total of 65340 as com ¬ pared to 57971 last year a gain of 7369 or 127 per cent centThe The receipts were 11425380 as compared to 9859340 a gain of 1566040 or 158 per cent centFor For the six days the state will receive a tax payment of 19321 as against 17149 last year an increase of 2171 or 126 per cent centIn In considering the above figures it must be borne in mind that the track had the ad ¬ vantage of Independence Day following on the second day of its meeting and of flawless weather throughout the six days Neverthe ¬ less the attendance on the ordinary days of the week was sufficient numerically to jus ¬ tify the expectation that the whole figures ol the meeting will exceed the whole figures of last year There have been so far this year gains above a year ago at the other three tracks Jamaica Belmont Park and Aque ¬ duct which have thus far held meetings
